allisons Posted August 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2007 Are there jeep/car rental companies at the port? Is it OK to tour the island on our own? If not, then we will go with a private tour operator. We have rented jeeps and toured on our own in St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Croix, Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, St. Lucia, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman, but we have used private tour operators in Antigua, Jamaica, Belize, and Costa Maya. Taiger Posted August 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2007 You can try www.gringorent-a-car.com . I think they deliver to the port and it is perfectly safe to explore on your own. allisons Posted August 26, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted August 26, 2007 Taiger, Thank you so much! That is very helpful! We'll definitely rent a car and explore the island on our own! I really appreciate your advice! Thanks, Allison
Taiger Posted August 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2007 You won't be sorry. There is just so much to see and do here. Do some research and ask any questions you may have. I love living here. :)
allisons Posted August 27, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted August 27, 2007 Taiger, Thank you! Which sights and attractions should we visit during our tour of the island? If we have time for the beach in the afternoon, which beach would you recommend? What restaurant would you recommend for lunch? Thanks, Allison
Taiger Posted August 28, 2007 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2007 YQW Depends on what you like. Some like shopping while others like seeing some of the island beauty. There are old forts and old churches as well as modern shopping malls. There is an open air flee market alongside the farmers market. The most popular beach is Plays El Agua, and the best touristy restaurant there, IMO, is El Pacifico. It is a beach front restaurant where you either eat inside, on the deck or right on the beach. allisons Posted August 28, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted August 28, 2007 Taiger, Thank you! We go sightseeing, not shopping. We are interested in the island beauty, not shopping malls. We will visit the old forts, old churches, and open-air flea market. If we have time left, we'll go to the beach for a while.
