RogerandChris Posted August 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I was just wondering if phone cards will work from pay phones on the islands? I just want to check my answering machine machine once or twice without paying cell access charges.
crusinsusan Posted August 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I take my at&t card that I got at walmart. I use it in san juan, st thomas and a few other islands that you can find a pay phone that takes them. However in Mexico I bought a card at a store there for 10 minutes at a small price. Enjoy your cruise.
yst347 Posted August 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I think you are better off buying the phone card at one of your POC's. You will see plenty of internet cafe's and tourist kiosks/shops that sell phone cards in every Caribbean port I can think off. If you bring a card with you, it is possible that the card may not be compatible with the phone you want to use.
funship freddy Posted August 21, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2007 I always take a pre-paid AT&T (and I am NOT an AT&T fan.....they just work the most places) phone card (buy 'em at Sam's Club). Check for the "local" AT&T number for your poc and dial that number...tell the operator you have a US pre-paid card and they will connect your with the US operator and you are all set. Sounds like a hassle but it really isn't once you have done it. Much cheaper than other options unless you have a cell phone that lets you call from the island. US Virgins and Puerto Rico usually are included in plans. :)
