niffer03878 Posted August 24, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 24, 2007 We leave in 17 days for our first cruise. We have our Passports, Formal Wear :D , Bathing Suits, lots of Suntan Lotion, nice clothes for dinners etc, our Documents, our completed Fun Pass among other items. I just feel like we are forgetting something. I keep a vacation spreadsheet for our all our vacations but as this is our first cruise I don't know all there is to know. I am worried that our flight there will be delayed or the weather will be bad. I'm a constant worrier anyways, but this is a whole new thing for me. Is there something important that I am or could forget??? I've already decided that I'm going with the attitude that I'm going to have a good time no matter what, but I am still so nervous!!!! Please help calm my nerves and fears
Payd Posted August 24, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 24, 2007 Look at it this way...you have another 17 days to learn all you want about the ship you will be on an the ports you will visit. Anticipation is half the fun!! I hope that helps you relax. If not think about my predicament ~ still over 100 days to sail away ~ Payd:)
jleq Posted August 24, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 24, 2007 Sounds like everything is set. If it rains at one of your ports, just step inside for a cup of coffee. Odds are, the storm will be gone by the time you finish. Most important thing to bring...a smile

Please help calm my nerves and fears Sounds like you have a good handle on things. If you are planning on taking some of the excursions from the ship it would be a good idea to book them now. Some of the more popular ones sell out. Also, on Lobster night at dinner you can ask or as many as you like. :D Well that goes for any night, just order as much of whatever you feel likie. And you HAVE to try the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake for Desert!! :D :D
Pegs222 Posted August 24, 2007 #5 Share Posted August 24, 2007 Hey, your going to be just fine. Everyone on this board has to take their first cruise one time or another, and you are going on yours in just a few weeks, how exciting is that. You are going to have so much fun. You are going to go to some fabalous places, meet some wonderful people, eat the best food you have ever eaten and be waited on hand and foot by some really amazing people. They may have a different accent that you have, but you will understand them and they will take such good care of you. So try and relax and just imagine how you are going to react when you first see your ship for the first time. Have a wonderful cruise and come back and tell us all about it. Take that camera because I insist that you bring back lots of pictures.

If I make it to the dock with my Fun Pass, docs and ID I figure I'm doing well... Bless your heart, you're more than ready! Take the time you've got to peruse the deck plans for the ship and figure out the shortest way to the Lido deck!

LPast50 Posted August 24, 2007 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2007 Are you flying or traveling by car or are you lucky enough to live where the ship leaves? If you have to travel, I'd leave the day before and stay overnight in a hotel. Planes can be delayed, cars can have problems.....I always arrive the day before so I'm sure to be on time to board the ship:D

bakechef Posted August 24, 2007 #14 Share Posted August 24, 2007 You will be fine, just make sure that you have any prescriptions along with all of the other things you mentioned and you will be fine, if you forget something minor you will most likely be able to get it on the ship or first port. I always over pack for a cruise, and my nerves are shot just before the cruise, but the second I step on that ship, all of that goes away. dndcruise Posted August 24, 2007 #18 Share Posted August 24, 2007 My favorite saying while cruising is:: Don't worry, be happy. The rule is simple, as long as you get on the ship, it does not matter if you forgot something. Just sit back and enjoy.

I think the only thing I didn't see mentioned (and it is a biggie for me....cause I am a bit of a hypochondirac) is something in case you or someone in your party gets Sea Sick. My biggest fear is that I will spend my entire time at sea hugging the toilet. This is a strange fear for me since I live on the water and spend tons of time in boats, but this is the first ship for me.

niffer03878 Posted August 24, 2007 Author #25 Share Posted August 24, 2007 Are you flying or traveling by car or are you lucky enough to live where the ship leaves? If you have to travel, I'd leave the day before and stay overnight in a hotel. Planes can be delayed, cars can have problems.....I always arrive the day before so I'm sure to be on time to board the ship:D Unfortunately being a newbie (and booking before we discovered this wonderful board) we had Carnival book our flight :( . We leave Boston at 8am and are supposed to land in Orlando at 11:10. Knock on wood the last 2 trips to Orlando we were always early. That is one of the big worries I have. We were going to change our flight to the day before but the expense was way more then we could afford. The major bummer is that Delta changed our flight home 3 times. We were supposed to leave at 3:15, now we aren't leaving until 7:15pm which means we won't be home in NH until after 1am. We are hoping we can get off the ship early enough to get to the airport to change our flight to the 11:45am flight. I know wishful thinking but we are hoping. To everyone else, thank you for your words. You guys are all the best! I need this vacation more then anything right now and can't wait to leave. I think right now most everything is out of our control.
