Is St. John do-able coming into Crown Bay from 7am-3pm?

I really want to go to St. John on my own (9/6 Crown Princess cruise), but I am worried that 7-3 may be too short and I would be cutting it very close. It is not necessary that I go to Charlotte Amalie as well, as I can shop around the port in Cruz Bay while waiting to leave St. John. I have read back many pages and checked google maps and the usvi visitor site and it is not that easy to see where the cruise ship docks with regards to a timeline. Thank you all for your knowledge as I can't imagine visiting these islands without it!
