Tipping on a Private Escorted Tour

Hello all! I have a question for you. From time to time I book a private escorted tour and they are fairly expensive. I noticed on this particular website they said about the tour cost (which is hundreds of dollars) "does not include gratuity". Now my first inclination is, sheesh, you're charging enough for a private tour and want a gratuity too. Sorry, just a reaction. That being said, what would you think is a proper amount to tip? 10% of the tour cost? Just wondering. Thanks!

Jane, IMHO...if you have paid hundreds for the tour...the guide is getting paid as well as the company..therefore...10% would be crazy. I would evaluate the guide and the day..and give what you feel is sufficient, and that will do. Lola
