SCUBA Mark Posted August 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2007 I am going on a cruise in October to the Mexican Riviera. Does anybody have experience diving in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas? I have heard visibility in the Sea of Cortez sometimes is not very good. I want to know how the viz is in these two places. Also water temps in October? Carnival prices for a 2-tank dive are $89 and $109 respectively. Can anyone recommend local dive ops in either of these two places? Mark
solita Posted August 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2007 The water temp in October will usually range from 78-72F. Visibility will range from 15-80+ft depending on the amount of nutrients in the water. Right noe, the water is greenish with lowered vis but in turn there are a bazillion fish! It is a trade off. And keep in mind, you can't compare here to the water in the Caribbean if you have dove there. Pelican Rock, one of the main dive spots, can really be effected by the currents and lowered visibility according to the tides - high to low is usually worse, low to high is usually better. Whereas, Sta. Maria and Chileno coves usually are not effected as much. The dive shop that Carnival uses is really good - Underwater Diversions. There are other shops but I can't comment on their quality of service.
