Can you not have your name announced?

Well, being a woman and since I'm travelling with a female friend, I think we'll just submit the names "Proctor and Gamble" - that ought to turn a few heads.

Or, how about a few of you coming up with an even BETTER funny for us to submit? We'll be sailing 9/23, 4 day Wonder.

How about Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz?

But seriously.. for the OP: Disney is the master of discretion. If you don't want something they won't do it. Just make your wishes known upon check in. You can also board the ship later in the day--things are somewhat quiet around 3:30pm or so. I think its a bit silly to announce the name, but for many people a cruise is quite special. We sailed another cruise line last month and the kids said "What, no announcement onto the ship?" LOL.

Announce my name? I can hardly pronounce it....I doubt they'd want to!

When I first met my DH, it took me weeks to get the spelling and pronounciation straight!

It's a good thing he's so cute....I would have given him up long before I tried to learn it!

Welcome to the Disney Boards, Wizard. Are you planning on taking a little Disney Cruise?

secret families, secret doors, oh my!

I just wanted to say "GO EAGLES" GO PENN STATE! I live in KY but my DH is from PA and we are BIG Penn State and Eagles fans. I know that has nothing to do with Disney but it is the next best thing...don't you agree.

For reasons of privacy and security, we have no interest and do not want our names announced when we board. Will DCL honour this request? Can we just bypass the introduction?

I don't know if you have children. But when we sailed, they just said the kid's names (Princess ..., Prince..., and Prince ...). Of course you can bypass the whole announcement. But, maybe you can have a little fun with it too? You're on vacation, relax and enjoy yourself. :D

I second, Thelma and Louise. That would surely turn heads! ;)

Too bad you aren't two guys. Chip and Dale would have been a good one! :D

BTW- Someone on our December cruise was asking about you for some reason on the other cruise message board. They hadn't seen you post in awhile or something and I guess they missed you. Awwwwwwwwwww!

Well I am not active on that board anymore since I had to cut down my board participation, I was just going insane. I am waiting and hoping to get PALO at 75 days soon.

This will be our first and we are pretty sure only DCL cruise. DD is far more interested in our Hawaii, OZ adventure and Med cruise plans. She can take or leave the characters. We are just happy to get away.

We have DD4 (almost 5). You may underestimate how much your daughter is going to like the Disney cruise. DD4 didn't want to get off at the end of our cruise last year. She had so much fun in the clubs, exploring the ship and meeting the characters. She still talks about it almost a year later. Also, the ship is going to be beautifully decorated for the holidays. The atrium is amazing. That is another reason you shouldn't be too worried about them announcing your name. Everyone is in their own little world looking at the atrium when they embark or trying to figure out where to go.

I heard rumors about DCL going back to the Med for the summer of 2009. We hope it is true because that is when we plan to go to Europe. We need to get some use out of the passports we just received! :o

Well I could be totally wrong, I just know from a budget standpoint I can find better deals on other lines. It would have to be a unique opportunity or itinerary for us to pick DCL again. I saw some deals on Freedom and Liberty on the same basic route for the same time in an equivalent cabin. DD loved Freedom and also did not want to leave the kids clubs. She was mad she was too young to do the rock wall.

I also am going to miss having a casino which is why we are headed to Vegas alone two weeks before we go. Don't get me wrong, we are loving to be going but we are just not into Disney as others are. It was just the right opportunity when we booked. The idea of seeing their take on Christmas both at the World and on the ship is exciting though.

We are driving so there should be no problem getting to the port early to board and get our reservations if we do not get them online in 14 days. We don't do spa appointments nor salon appointments. We just want to make sure we can get some separation between Palo Brunch and dinner.

If it really bothers you, why not give a false name.

I have heard people do this for fun, once a family said they were the Griswalds from Chicago. For those who dont know that is the name of a family in a movie that Chey Chase starred in about going to Wally World instead of Disney World.

My husband thinks its funny to embarass me and say our name is Kadilihoper from the Ozarks. Everyone (CM's)laughs and nobody pays any real attention. they will announce what ever name you give, so just have fun with it and dont worry.

Believe me, everyone is so excited about getting on the ship they dont hear most of what is being said around them, just the CM's listen and clap for you and your family, nobody else cares they are off to lunch.

They wont say your room number so nobody will know where you are staying anyway.

I agree with oceanliner and some other posters. The OP should be respected for his or her wishes. It is hard enough sometimes being in public without somone starring or pointing at you. I know it is the price you pay for being in the business, but honestly when people are on vacation that should be exactly what it is. Please respect their wishes and don't make a big deal over their question.

When asked for a name by a host (or hostess) at a restaurant, I always give my name as Frederick Kruger, but you can call me Freddie, if you like. It gets a great laugh if they announce it on the PA.

Give your name as Smith. No one will remember it anyway.

It's been my experience that the only people who pay any attention to the announcements are the staff whose job it is to applaud you as you board. Everyone else is busy making a beeline for Parrot Cay. :D You can give a fake name or ask not to be announced, but it really shouldn't be a disaster if you choose to give your name as well. Of course, if you are accustomed to getting applause in your daily life, it may not be as big a thrill as it is for some of us when we're boarding. ;)

There are certain elements in society we do not want to know our real names nor do we want attention drawn to ourselves in real life. It is our business and now that I know I could give a fake name or just bypass the announcements all together, we will do one of those choices.
