theduffys Posted August 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2007 We will be spending one night after our cruise in May (ending in Southampton) and have decided that a B&B is the way to go since they are cheaper, offer free breakfast and free transport to the airport. Does anyone have any insights on a good one?

Does anyone have any insights on a good one? I'm not sure where you get the idea that a B&B does inclusive taxi service. This is not what is normally understood by a B&B in England. In fact I don't think hotels, other than airport hotels, would have inclusive transport. Better to find a halfway decent hotel within a few miles and get a cab. Or use one of the airport hotels. They are horribly boring, but convenient. Matthew
theduffys Posted August 30, 2007 Author #3 Share Posted August 30, 2007 Matthew, I have found at least two "guest houses" near to Gatwick (5 miles) that offer free transport in there own vans.
Meribeth Posted August 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2007 We have stayed at the Gable End Guest House twice and would stay there again. Joesph and Mary are great. They offer a clean room, great breakfast and transfer service to the airport. There are plenty of places to walk to for dinner. http://www.gable-end.com/index.shtml
theduffys Posted August 30, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted August 30, 2007 Thanks Meribeth. That is one of the places I was looking at. Nice to hear a good testimonial.
glgolfer Posted September 3, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2007 theduffys - We have also stayed at Gable End on July 1 this year. We agree with Meribeth and would stay there again. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable. The breakfast was very good and they have juice, etc. in the evening. The pub Mary recommended for food was close and excellent and there's an internet cafe within walking diatance. Transport to Gatwick is included. Joseph is a wannabe race car driver, but got us there safe and sound.
