Pegs222 Posted August 31, 2007 #26 Share Posted August 31, 2007 Who says its got to be a credit card? No interest on a debit card and if you're really concerned about the scant anount of interest earned on a couple hundred dollars over a few week period then maybe a lavish cruise isnt for you in the first place. For me I guess the only arguement that holds water is the ability to remove the tips in the event of poor service. The one exception I could see is if youre paying several months in advance, then I can see your point, but I cant imagine why anyone would prepay tips months or possibly years in advance. Who says it is going to go on anything? It is a part of the cruise. Your bill does not have any interest added on to it, only your CC card if you do not pay for it at the end of the month. The charge for the tips is just an amount on your bill, just like the takes and your passage. This probably does not make any sense, but it does to me LOL. Pegs222 Posted August 31, 2007 #27 Share Posted August 31, 2007 Last time we paid it right when we got on the boat but this time we paid it ahead of time. It is nicer to get it out of the way. That way you don't have to bring more spending money:) And I want to book as many of our excursions as we can online, pay for them before we even get on the ship. This cruise is going to be expensive as it is, no need to make that bill even bigger than it needs to be.
Pegs222 Posted August 31, 2007 #28 Share Posted August 31, 2007 Now I'm confused:confused: So I should wait and have them put on my Sign & Sail card - is that what your saying? It is your decision, but I would pay them and get them out of the way. You know your going to pay for them sooner or later, this is just sooner. Stircrzy Posted August 31, 2007 #29 Share Posted August 31, 2007 I see on my Carnival acct. that I can prepay my tips now as part of my cruise bill or do you wait until you get on the ship and they take it out of your Sign & Sail acct?? Does it matter either way? I pre-pay during booking.

If you get it all paid for before you go, you don't have to worry about saving money so you can pay off everything when it's all over.
kylescoolmom Posted August 31, 2007 #31 Share Posted August 31, 2007 I pre-paid my tips and excursions on my cc.. I paid off my cc and asked for a increase in credit and got it. Now I have more $$ for my drinks - pictures and souvenirs.
mojo2rusty Posted August 31, 2007 #32 Share Posted August 31, 2007 I have always prepaid to get it out of the way. On one cruise we did go the last day and deduct some of it as we never saw our room stewards at all. Our group has also picked up an envelope the last day and added a little extra for our dining room staff when they were really super which most of the time they have been. This way they actually get it in hand and know that that extra mile they went for us was really appreciated.
kelz66 Posted August 31, 2007 #33 Share Posted August 31, 2007 I put it on my S&S as it is all going on the same card for me...LOL I also give a little more in cash at the end for those who deserve it, and i have never has a room stewart or waite staff who didn't . I count myself blessed there...I do not need to see my room stewart as long as they do their job....which they usually time it so that it is done when you are not in your cabin...a good room stewart is recognized only by the mints and towel animals they leave behind in a clean room!!!
