LolaBunny Posted September 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2007 How much cash do you take on a cruise. I know about the S&S card, but there is always that cash needed for room service and shopping in ports. I was just looking for the average amount that most people take on board. shermar96 Posted September 2, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I generally take between $1000 and $1500. No - I have never spent that much, and always come home with quite a bit. I just like to have extra money "just in case" I find something awesome!! Plus what ever I bring home - I can use to book my next cruise!;)
reddeb2121 Posted September 2, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I take $200 just in $1 bills ( I like to tip :D )
BULLOCH12 Posted September 2, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2007 $1500 00 OR MORE.......but most comes home to pay the s&s and then some put away for the next cruise.....but i have been known to put away about $900 in drinks alone
mytime53 Posted September 2, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2007 We take about $50/day. That will cover all our necessities, and leave mucho extra at the end of the trip. I appreciate the fact that tips on board now are automatic and on your account. I don't have to worry about having so much money at the end of the cruise...just enough to tip the shuttle drivers, etc.
shermar96 Posted September 2, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I take $200 just in $1 bills ( I like to tip :D ) HAHA- I do the same! I work for a bank and the first time I did that - they about flipped out! I'd tell them I need two straps of ones {$100 each}. Now they are use to me! $1500 00 OR MORE.......but most comes home to pay the s&s and then some put away for the next cruise.....but i have been known to put away about $900 in drinks alone Son of a .... $900 in drinks?? Oh my!!! My 'extra' money doesn't include my s&s - I already have a stash for that!
JaguarGirl Posted September 2, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I usually take a couple hundred dollars with me because the majority of my money goes to paying off the cruise before I leave town.
Rowan555 Posted September 2, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 2, 2007 For a 5 day cruise we bring $300, and for 7 day cruises we bring $400. We usually only spend about half that amount.
oldmedic Posted September 2, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 2, 2007 we normally take about a $100.00 per day. we have never been short, and normally pay our s&s card off before we leave.... not real big spenders...
neatokimmo Posted September 2, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I discovered on my last cruise if I take a bunch of cash I can't track what I spent it on. I am not writing down where every penny goes but I do like to remember where I spent the bulk of it :) That is why I use my sail and sign in the casino now, that 3% fee is worth it to me. On our 7 day in less than 3 weeks (wooohhoo) I'll be taking $300, expecting only to spend $100 of it. I am thinking about opening a cash account for the first time since my tips are covered by OBC. Payd Posted September 2, 2007 #12 Share Posted September 2, 2007 Since we don't spend time in the casino we can take a bit less. Usually around 500 to cover private excursions for the 2 of us, a few souveniers, snacks and drinks in port etc.
CruisingAgain Posted September 2, 2007 #13 Share Posted September 2, 2007 We take $400 and bring at least half of it home .... we only need money for tips, cabs and drinks at the beach. Everything else (S&S and jewelry shopping) is charged. Might as well get something (1% or miles) back when spending money!!! Of course, we always pay off the credit cards as soon as we get the bill. If you don't do that then using cash is probably better
neatokimmo Posted September 2, 2007 #14 Share Posted September 2, 2007 Nope, the $900 previously mentioned would cover my entire 14 day cruise next year including tips. No way am I drinking 2 big cruises away! hmmmm must not be to many drinkers on this tread.
firefly333 Posted September 2, 2007 #15 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I think the poll needs to state for a 7 day cruise or the amount of time of the cruise.
Wennfred Posted September 2, 2007 #16 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I voted wrong, should of been 1000 - 1500 and not the 500 - 1000 category. Its your long awaited vacation, don't limit yourself because you are short on funds. Buy want you want to buy and do what you want to do and enjoy your trip. gusandgidgetsmom Posted September 2, 2007 #17 Share Posted September 2, 2007 I take about 1200. usually divide with hubby--his money but I am the accountant! We normally come home with quite a bit of it as we don't always go to the casino and do not drink much. Hubby just likes to have cash.

Rare patrice1 Posted September 2, 2007 #19 Share Posted September 2, 2007 We usually bring $150 in singles for tips, $100 for each port and $20 each for every night in the casino - yeah, I know, big spenders  . Our S&S is already covered as we have Funship dollars to plunk down when we board. BTW, our casino rule is: each a roll of quarters. If we hit $100 or more, we stop & it goes in the safe. If we don't, we play till it's gone. Won $1100 on our NCL cruise and $200 on our last. It works for us!

buddyjo143 Posted September 2, 2007 #22 Share Posted September 2, 2007 If you had phrased it between 0 and $250 I would have been there but I had to take the first offer. We don't take much cash since we have a credit card. ;)
