57818 Posted May 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2004 Grouchy, You are so generous to continue your postings & keeping us informed, so thank you. Well, it looks like we need to look @ alternate areas instead of downtown for our post cruise hotel June 27th. This explains why all of my bids on priceline have been rejected. We need only 1 night post cruise with 3 teenagers. So, would recommend the Bunaby Hilton or airport Hilton? Thanks again, Kim
grouchy Posted May 25, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 25, 2004 How many days are you going to be here? Both are some ways from downtown. Time for another Cruise!
57818 Posted May 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2004 We will be arriving in Vancouver & staying downtown 2 days before our cruise so we will have the opportunity to do some sightseeing prior to our cruise. So, we are looking for a hotel 1 night post cruise with perhaps something close by to entertain teenagers. Maybe some shopping or a movie theater. Thanks for your help, Kim
grouchy Posted May 25, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I would go for the airport one-you can hop on the Airporter bus and get off downtown. http://www.greatervancouverhotels.com/richmond/Hilton-Vancouver-Airport.htm They used to have a shuttle to downtown? grouchy Posted May 25, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted May 25, 2004 Then pick Burnaby-Metrotown has a large theatre complex and tons of cool shops. Lots of teenagers hang out there. Time for another Cruise!
auburngirl Posted May 25, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2004 We are going to be in Vancouver from the date our cruise ends on June11 until early in the morning of June 14. We will be traveling with a 73 year old lady, a 5 year old child and we are 40. What do you advice for us to see? We were thinking of going to Victoria for a day and see Bouchart Gardens and also China town.
grouchy Posted May 25, 2004 Author #8 Share Posted May 25, 2004 You will not have time to go to Victoria for the day. The ferry ride is almost 2 hours each way and the ride to the ferry terminal is almost an hour(depending on traffic). If you can afford to fly over-then it is possible. There are tons of things to do. Is the 75 year old active-likes to walk? Take a bus tour-will find you some links. Time for another Cruise! grouchy Posted May 25, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted May 25, 2004 here is a link on things to do and how to get there by bus. Minter Gardens is a lovely place, smaller than Butchart Gardens-but beautiful all the same. http://www.where.ca/vancouver/subcategory_guide.cfm?subcategory_id=5&category_id=5&subtitle_id=23 Time for another Cruise! auburngirl Posted May 25, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 25, 2004 The 73 year old walks 2 miles per day. She is in better health than me!! We're staying at the Days Inn in Vancouver and they recommended a tour which will pick us up at the hotel at 6:45 am and we will get to the gardens at 11 am. We will leave the gardens at 2 and arrive in Victoria at 3pm. We will then have until 8 pm to tour Victoria and take the bus back to Vancouver (bus will be on the ferry). We will be dropped off at the hotel at midnight. The price is $96. What do you think? It's through Pacific Coach.
grouchy Posted May 25, 2004 Author #11 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I think it is a very long days for all of you-but if you have your heart set on it.... The gardens are HUGE and I don't think the time there is enough. Stanley Park is beautiful and have nice gardens and a great rose garden. You can do a nice walk and then go do the Chefs Table at the Pavilion right in the middle of the park. Grouse Mountain is good and the views are fabulous! Good food and lots to see and do up there-nice trails. Time for another Cruise!
57818 Posted May 26, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 26, 2004 Grouchy, Thanks so much for all your help---we booked the Hilton Metrotown & the kids are excited because there is a bowling alley, theater, & a mall within walking distance of the hotel.
