highcbob Posted September 7, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2007 Although no mention from Cunard ( yet ), some of you may find this article out today interesting: http://www.usatoday.com/travel/news/2007-09-06-cruise-smoking-bans_N.htm
KenC Posted September 7, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2007 Interesting reading. Cunard are probably waiting for the UK government to publish details of the ban on smoking in UK territorial waters before they take a position. I would expect restrictions on Victoria to be more stringent than on Elizabeth 2 or Mary 2. Ken
adrenalinjunkie Posted September 7, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2007 I am a non smoker and, risking the wrath of any future fellow passengers, think it should be banned completely. Apart from the fire hazard from a cigarette not properly extinguished, I would hate to be in a cabin that reeks of smoke, and even out on deck you can't escape the smells. I will be very happy if my next cruise is smoke-free!
Norfolk Brit Posted September 7, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2007 I will be very happy if my next cruise is smoke-free! And I will be very happy if this thread doesn't lead to yet another tedious, boring and unpleasant debate on the pros and cons of smoking; it's been done to death. Traveler Nina Posted September 7, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 7, 2007 I would have to agree with Veronica. It is proven that second hand smoke is as bad or worse for the people around the smoker. For health reasons especially, where children are concerned. (I am fiercly protective of their health!) I would rather not have to worry about walking through a lounge with my child and have them exposed to second hand smoke. Smoking is a personal choice and just as we would not force our other personal choices (lifestyles, beliefs etc) on someone else people should not be allowed to force their personal smoking lifestyle choice on others through 2nd hand smoke. I would however, completely understand a cruise line that would create a special area on a ship for smokers such as Churchill's on QM2. I do not have to go through there to get anywhere so it is not an inconvience.
