sunsetme Posted September 9, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2007 thinking of renting a car in Nanaimo and going to Cowichan Valley for the day. Is this doable? any good vineyward recommendations?
LeftcoastBC Posted September 9, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2007 The drive and area is certainly doable. About an easy hour each way without stops. But you will want to do just that. I am not familiar with any of the wineries but our Industry is getting better at what they produce as a whole. That being said the guys on the Island are all pretty new to the game and well behind the Okanagan Valley in the interior. Being from Ca. you likely can appreciate that. The area on a nice day is simple a beautiful spot in our Province.
cruiseryyc Posted September 10, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2007 I find the wines of the Cowichan Valley much better than the Okanagan Valley. Two of my favorites - Zinatta's and Godfrey Brownell. Also Cherry Point is very good but a little further south and maybe a stretch if you only have one day in Nanaimo. LeftcoastBC Posted September 10, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2007 There you go... :) to each his own... that's why they make White Zin. eh?? Somebody somewhere will like it. :D I wasn't thinking so much about the tastes as the "Physical" set ups of the winerys. The Okanagan has attempted to place them selves up there with our neighbours to the south.... and done quite well. Their wines have improved also. :)
