Is there such a thing as a fake toenail?

I know my subject line sounds weird, but I had an incident with one of our horses in July which not only shattered my left big toe, but as of this past Saturday, I have no toenail! We leave to cruise on the Liberty on 9/23 and I would like to know if a nail salon can apply an acyrlic toenail directly to my skin (I've never used the acyrlic on my fingernails) or would I be better off just painting a fake toenail on with polish?

Thanks for any advice.:o

I had them put an acyrilic on my big toe when I lost it after doing a marathon,it worked GREAT!!!! Stayed on until my own grew back in,just don;t let them do it too long.

I am in the process of losing my toenail on my big toe. Should I just let it hang around (only attached by a small thread) or can I cut away the toenail that is no longer attached? Does the toe need a toenail on top for protection? Will my toe hurt when there is no toenail there?

I had mine removed by a foot doctor so can't answer the first question. As for needing protection. Your toe nail area is problably healing as the nail is coming off so it should okay. It will be tender if you drop something on it. Mine has been so many years the skin n the nail area is like callous skin.
