CKEA_Cruising_Family Posted September 14, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2007 Our NCL Gem 3/1 itinerary changed and now has stops in Grand Bahama and Nassau. What would you suggest in terms of excursions in these stops? We'll be travelling with 2 and 4 year olds.
Ellanora Posted September 14, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2007 In Nassau, we just walked around and shopped, so I can't personally recommend anything there. Your children are probably too young to enjoy the pirate museum, but I think there's a zoo and garden tour, and everyone raves about Atlantis. In Freeport, I highly recommend taking a cab to Our Lucaya marketplace. There are shops, restaurants, a straw market, and a marina there, and across the street you can walk behind the casino to a beautiful public beach. The cab ride is $5 per person each way, and usually, you will share a taxi van with others heading to the same place. The taxi van driver is very good about picking you up at the casino at a designated time to bring you back to the ship. There's a tiny straw market by the ship in Freeport, but really nothing else, so if you want to do anything you either have to book an excursion or take a cab. I actually enjoyed our time at Our Lucaya better than Nassau, but I think I'm in the minority.
dosi Posted September 15, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2007 We spent a lovely day at the British Colonial Hilton in Nassau. It is an easy walk from the port. I don't remember the exact cost, but i think it was maybe $20 per person for the adults and there was no charge for my four year old. The hotel has a lovely private beach, no vendors, and very little surf. There are beachy toys such as paddle boats etc included in your admission. The staff were all very nice. We snorkeled, laid out and just relaxed. I highly recommend it.:)
ccturner26 Posted September 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2007 We are doing the Atlantis with our 2 year old. We got a great hotel rate and will be allowed to do it all. So I can deifintely tell you if it's worth it in 2 weeks!
crusinmama06 Posted September 17, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2007 I go to Nassau JUST to go to Atlantis. My kids love it that much. It's expensive. And there are a couple of ways to book it. You can get day passes ($107 per adult, $75 per child) but they aren't always available and it's more expensive when you add up a fam of 4, you could just book a room. The rates for Atlantis (ON SALE) start at about $179/$199 and run as high as $320 (can go higher). You want to book Beach or Coral tower for the cheapest rate. Or you can book Comfort Inn Suites next door and still use the facilities at Atlantis. They have countless kid pools, a lazy river, kid water slides and splash areas. They have pools with sharks, turtles and stingrays all over the property. You could spend days there and not see everything. We've been there twice and I can still say we haven't seen everything yet. And I know we haven't done everything there. And this is what Atlantis looks like...
CKEA_Cruising_Family Posted September 18, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted September 18, 2007 Great idea... I would have never thought of booking a room at Atlantis but considering we're in port from 8am - 1am that may be perfect. Any idea how much a cab ride from port to Atlantis runs?
