ging466 Posted September 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2007 Hi Wondering if there is anyone out there who has done this cruise ex Hong Kong. It stops at a number of ports in Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore - great itinerary. Was thinking of doing this cruise next year if it is catered more towards the Australian market than the Asian market. Also have noted people commenting that this is a small ship - how many passengers does it take? Can anyone help? Thankx in advance. Cheers Ging466 Hi Ging We took the Superstar Gemini on only our second ever cruise to the Straits of Malacca in January 2000. Everything about the cruise was magical, the ship is what I call a real ship with plenty of wood and brass! A little bit like a miniature QE2. ;) (This is, of course only my opinion) The Itinerary was why we chose the cruise – fantastic. At that time we were in our very early 40s (if it makes a difference) and a Brit - unfortunately not still early 40s but still British :D The size of the ship depends on what you have previously sailed in. It holds approx 800 passengers I think. Try this link and see what YOU think http://www.starcruises.com/Fleet/Gemini Sue
deck 9 001 Posted September 16, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2007 Hi ging466, I suggest you read the SuperStar Gemini thread which offers a wealth of information from past and current passengers. It will probably answer questions that you haven't even thought of yet:D It's a great thread, try it out. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=282411 Mike
kuldalai Posted October 8, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2007 This is really a 21 night roundtrip itinerary (based from Singapore) on SS GEMINI and for the 2008 season it can be done in a number of ways : The cruise can now also be taken as a 21 night round trip from Hong Kong via Singapore returning to Hong Kong . Three (3) departure dates for this option ex Hong Kong Wednesdays 21/05, 16/07 and 03/09/08 . Round trip (21 nights) Six (6) departure dates ex Singapore on Sundays 11/05, 01/06, 06/07,27/07, 24/08 & 14/09/08. One way trip Singapore to Hong Kong (10nights) Six (6) departure dates ex Singapore on Sundays 11/05, 01/06, 06/07, 27/07, 24/08 & 14/09/08. One way trip Hong Kong to Singapore (11 night) departing Hong Kong on Wednesdays 21/05, 11/06, 16/07,06/08,03/09 & 24/09/08. SS GEMINI carries maximum 800 pax and it a sensational little vessel with a 7 star crew that give service like nothing I have experienced anywhere in the world. This year we went Singapore - Hong Kong on SS GEMINI and just loved the vessel, staff and ports of call . We were so impressed we are booked again on SS GEMINI Jan '08 Sydney to Singapore, and then in 06/08 again on SS GEMINI Hong Kong to Singapore . These days GEMINI is regarded as a small ship and in fact STAR have sold it and are leasing it back for the balance of calendar year 2008 after which she will sadly leave the STAR fleet . So get in now and book your proposed 21 night round cruise departing from either Singapore (on 6 dates) or from Hong Kong (on 3 dates). Either way which ever port you start from you end up visiting the same total ports. kuldalai Posted October 8, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2007 With the longer duration STAR cruises like 7, 10, and 21 days the on board patronage is made up primarily of serious cruisers and holiday makers (as distinct from Asian gamblers who make up most of the patronage on the shorter overnight , 2 & , 3 day cruises in the Straits of Malacca, and on SS PISCES out of Hong Kong.) As such on the 21 day round trip itineraries you will find mostly Australians with a sprinkling of Asians, Europeans, and a good complement from the UK also.
