In room baby sitting

I know that both Holland America and Celebrity offer in-room babysitting services as I have used them both. I have a 18 month old DS.

Do any of the other lines offer this service? There are no itineraries that meet our schedules on Celebrity or HAL for next April and I wondered if we had any other options.

thanks - We have taken 4 cruises with our son and they have been very easy...enjoy family cruising.

RCCL is the other. It's $8/hour. It's on a first come first serve basis.

have you ever used the baby sitting service? my 10 yr old is looking forward to the AO club but my shy 7 yr old is not. DH and I would like to have one dinner alone but are nervouse about babysitting service. we've never used one at a hotel or anything....just sitters we know at home.

I haven't used one. We booked one when I thought my youngest was going to get booted from AO (long story...lol) but I cancelled it and she returned to AO.

Can you show your 7 year old the activities listed here...

Maybe you can get the 7 year old excited about the activities before you go? MY 7 year old traded in a Walt Disney World vacation for a Liberty of the Seas cruise and the opportunity to get back in AO. She LOVES that place.

For the 7 year old, there is a pirate parade, a circus, a talent show (they give you the talent like spinning plates...lol). They play GAGA ball. I have NO idea what GAGA ball is but for some reason everyone loves it. They have wacky names at the first day meet/greet. My daughter became "Marshmellow Morgan" and she still loves to use that name.

I've used it for my baby when he was 6 months old. He was sleeping the whole time. She seemed really nice. She did exactly what i told her to do (which was "do nothing if he cries, just let him put himself back down") She watched re runs of Wonder Woman and she diligently reported to me how much he had coughed while we were gone (he has a constant case of "daycare" going on......oh no, it's not a cold, a cough, etc - it's called "daycare")

If my child would have been older I probably would have just said "take him for soft serve, let him watch TV and then bed by 8 pm".

Betcha if your child is given the choice of staying in the room with a babysitter or going to play at A.O. he will choose A.O.

Or, if he is certain about rejecting A.O., ask him the next afternoon (after one night of being baby sat) if he wants to be baby sat again, or if he wants to try A.O. Maybe you can even convince him to try both before he makes a final decision - to be baby sat or not.

One thing - if you end up cancelling the sitter, at least consider tipping them the last night they show up. After all, they could have accepted someone else's babysitting job and actually made that money.

Happy Sailing!

My son will be 3 years-old on his first Celebrity cruise. If we hire a babysitter will she only stay in the room with him?

Depending on what is going on I would like to allow her to take our son to other places on the ship (do you think that would be safe?) I'm afraid at his age he might get kind of bored sitting in our cabin while we have dinner. Usually he goes to sleep about 9:30pm but I can see the whole vacation throwing that out the window.

We will have late seating. I was thinking we could get ready for dinner, welcome the babysitter, and then when I am done with dinner, etc..., I can come back to the cabin and put him to bed if he hasn't already fallen asleep (probably about 10:30pm). Hubby will probably go to the casino after dinner.

So, is it normal to allow the babysitter to take the child somewhere on the ship or is that taboo? Unsafe? I just don't know. I'm thinking it depends on the caretaker and the comfort of the family.
