NurseLove Posted September 20, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2007 Has anyone been to the Manatee park in Cape Canaveral and seen manatees? I'm thinking of taking a walk from our hotel to try to catch a glimpse of these big creatures and was wondering if they really hang out there or not. Thanks for your input! :)
lorsfish Posted September 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2007 We were there is Feb 07 and didn't see any! Everyone said they were south in warmer water!
snelsonbrown Posted September 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2007 I have seen them, but I live here - anyhow we usually have dozens in the back of our yard and this year, they and the dolphins have been very scarce. I don't know if has been the weather has been extremely hot, don't know if they have found a better place to hang out or just maybe better company :-) During the cold season, they do hang around the electric plant in Cocoa where the water is warmer. Wish I could promise you would see them if you went down there. Good luck Always Shirley
psblin99 Posted September 22, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2007 I also have seen them many times. Even if you don't its a nice walk and a beautiful waterside park.
Calgary North Posted September 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2007 if you have time, and the inclination, consider renting a car and drive a few miles north of Cape Canaveral to Merritt Island. We did on a port day a couple of years ago and enjoyed it immensely. Thousands of birds (egrets, cranes, herons, etc), lots of alligators, and misc others, including manatees. There is a very nice information centre in the reserve and the cost of it all is zero - I'm looking forward to returning some time
