Mariner- pagers or phones for the AO?

Hi,

I've seen some posts saying pagers or phones are issued for AO on some ships and some age groups. Specifically, what about the 6-8 group on the Mariner? Or should I just expect to check the voicemail in my room every hour or so to make sure DD is ok?

thanks!

On Freedom/Liberty they use cell phones. I don't know if Mariner does the same. On every other ship we have been on, it was pagers.

BUT, they are only for the 3-5 year old group. If you want one for the 6-8 crowd, you can ask for one. If they have extras, they *may* allow it.

I have seen them call the cabins for parents who don't have pagers/cells. You just have to check in from time to time.

They don't give pagers, but ask you to put on the sign in sheet where you will be -- pool, casino, stateroom, etc. We always have walkie-talkies so the kids can contact us if thy want to be picked up and we can be contacted easily without having to constantly check on them.

How old were your kids? I'm not sure I'd be able to count on my kids keeping track of a walkie talkie in the kids club- or could you just leave it with the counselors so they could contact you on the walkie talkie?

thanks!

On Serenade they made parents of the 3-5 year olds sign out a deck phone - looks like a walkie talkie, but it is actually a phone for the ship. If parents of older kids wanted to take a deck phone to keep in contact, they were allowing that as well. There were not a lot of kids on our sailing, so I guess that would depend on supply.

That's actually a really good idea! Walkie talkies are not that expensive, and I could see where they would come in really handy if your kids wanted to "run back to the room" or "run and get some yogurt" or if they were old enough to be on their own on sea days.

All you have to do is make sure your last name is well marked on the W.T. and you could leave it with A.O. for them to contact you if needed...

good freaking idea!

Only the youngest kids get pagers...my son, at 5, was one of the "senior" members of the Aquanaut group and the counselors told us they reserve the walkie talkies (or are they dect phones) for just the 3 year olds' parents. I asked them how they would find us in an emergency. They said they'd first try our room, and if it was truly an emergency, would track the last place we'd used our Seapass cards to find us. Fortunately, we did not need to find out!
