What to do on Kauai

Aloha. As you can imagine, these are questions which come up all the time. You might want to try an advanced search on this forum only for "kauai itinerary" or "kauai excursion" or "kauai activity" and "kauai car" or "kauai car rental" or similar. There are simply too many choices and too many personal preferences to answer such a broad question as to "best" things to do.

I just did a quick search. Here are some of the many recent threads to get you started:

BTW, you cannot "pick up" a rental car at any of the piers. You will have to rent at the closest location. For Kauai, that's the airport (designator: LIH). There will be shuttles at the pier to take pax with reservations to the rental location. You must rent in advance because they often sell out (especially at the smaller ports) as you are competing with thousands of land visitors every day for a finite number of cars, walkup rates in Hawaii are usually quite high, and sometimes the shuttle drivers have lists of pax with reservations and will only take those pax on the shuttles.

Happy reading!

We just returned from POH this week. We did the Discover Jungle Falls kayak trip on the first day and loved it. It is an easy trip on the river and the falls were beautiful! There is a bit of a hike down to the falls and the trip back up is a little tiring but so worth it! The guides were very helpful and so nice. They were very informative about the area .

We returned to the ship in time to go to our room and freshen up then walked to a beach near the pier. There were several shopping areas there also.

Our 2nd day in Kauai we took another NCL excursion and did the Hollywood/ movie tour. We enjoyed seeing the places that were fimed but felt this was way overcharged and I woud not recommend wasting the time or the money to do this. We were wishing we had saved the money and rented a car or since you leave early that day, could have just walked down to the beach and shops!

Have a great trip!

Hi,

My wife and I spent a beautiful day and a half on Kauai. There are two things we really enjoyed. "Wings over Kauai" for $100/per, min 2 will fly you in a Cesna 152 all around the island. Much of its beauty can best be enjoyed from the air. Bruce Coloumbe is the pilot and is a very good and hospitable pilot. They fly out of the Lihuie airport.

The second is "Post Cards," a wonderful restaurant in Hanalei on the north shore. They open at 6:00p. Make reservations. The menu is Hawaiian with dishes not found on every menu. Most foods are organically grown.

We did the movie tour on our own on a trip to Kaui a few years ago and I loved it. However, it was about half of what the cruise ships are now charging.
