Senior Citizen Rates-Vancouver hotels

Please could someone explain to me why senior citizen rates in Vancouver hotels start at age 62years.Here in the UK senior citizens[female] are 60 years of age.This is about to change in the future to 65years so that it is equal to the males,which is 65years.

A Sr. according to most Government programs here is 65.

 

Hotels/clubs/restaurants/etc etc use whatever BD they want according to the amount of business that they are seeking from "mature travelers"

 

FYI Most cruise lines use 55

 

so it's not set in stone as far as discounts are concerned. Just a marketing ploy. There are too many of us now I think and the age will just keep going up. :)
