number8 Posted September 26, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2007 We are leaving on the Millennium for a Western Med cruise leaving on October 21st. We booked all our airfare through Celebrity. We are flying out of Newark to Rome and then catching a connecting flight to Venice. My question is, do we have to get our bags, clear customs and immigration in Rome, then put them back on another conveyor and check in for our flight to Venice?? Also, our returning flight from Barcelona connects in Paris with only a 45 minutes between flights. Do we have to also clear customs in Paris before moving on to Newark ?? What are the chances that we are going to make this flight ?? I've flown back into the US and also into Canada and this is the normal way things where done. Any advice or help would be appreciatted. Thanks
Rare carlmm Posted September 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2007 If you booked your flights on one ticket you will not have to claim your baggage in Rome or Paris. It will be checked trough to your final resp. from your initial airport. Yet you will clear immigrations in your first resp. last airport within the Schengen-area. In your case on your trip to Europe: Rome: Immigration, nothing to do with baggage Venice: claim your baggage, customs On the trip back: Barcelona: Check in your luggage Paris: Nothing to do with baggage, pass Immigration
joan24 Posted September 26, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2007 Is there a chance that you could take a later flight out of Paris? Forty-five minutes is really not enough time at Charles de Gaulle. It's a huge airport. I don't want to be negative, but we usually have to really move even with over an hour between flights. Liv4cruzin Posted September 26, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2007 It's beyond my comprehension how any airline sells connections (especially through CDG) that allow less than a hr. Early this year, I was flying from Marseilles to Dusseldorf via CDG. I had 50 mins in which to run from one terminal, over 2 terminals. I was told I wasn't leaving the secure area & would not have to go through security again. Wrong. I was at the end of a long security line when my connecting flight took off. I went straight to (AF) the customer service desk; & asked how would it have even been possible to make this connection. The lady told me that it was impossible. Yet they continue to sell us the tickets; & we worry ourselves sick about making it. If at all possible change that ticket.
daryleann Posted September 26, 2007 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2007 I agree. You have to literally change terminals (which means the dreaded security again!) and even with security escorting us last year we didn't make it. They told us 'you should have allowed 1 1/2 hrs.' TA was really wrong. And internet does it all the time!
