If you take a taxi in Quebec to get to and from a restaurant from where the ships dock, do you pay in US or Canada money?

If I were to travel to your city and take a taxi somewhere, would I pay in Canadian or US dollars? While I'm sure most taxis would most likely take your USD, you would get change back in Canadian and now with the dollars being at par - who knows what they would do about the exchange rate. The polite thing to do would be to get some Canadian money for this type of transaction or use a credit card.

You should pay in CAD, as USD is a nuisance for Canadians. But most taxis will accept USD at a discount. The real rate is 1 for 1 at the moment, but because of the hassle and bank fees, expect to get about 90c on the dollar and get your change in CAD.

If we do decide to go to dinner in Quebec we would take a taxi to and from the port and the restaurant. Just want to be prepared with the right money and not have any problems.

 

Not a problem getting Canadian money back as change since we have several ports in Canada and we will be able to use any change up before leaving Canada.

We were just in Quebec City as part of a NYC to Montreal cruise. United States dollars are widely accepted. Unfortunately for those from the USA, the value of the USA dollar has fallen below that of Canada.
