Does anyone have any advise re: private tours Vs ships tours

We are mostly concerned about returning to ship on time safety etc.

Has anyone taken the Royal Caribbean tours? Any help would be appreciated.

All the cruise lines have essentially the same shore excursions from Alexandria to Cairo. I am assuming that is what you are doing. We took a private tour with Memphis Tours. They and other companies use vans. There were six passengers plus the guide and driver. We saw considerably more than the ship tours for about 60% the cost. We did insist that we return earlier than our guide suggested just to be on the safe side. We would use a private tour again in Egypt.

HI Have just returned from Royal Princess holy land cruise we had a party of 5 overnight in Israel with Genesis 2000 the cost pp was $320(included Prima Royale hotel breakfast all entrance fees and Masada we saw nazareth jerusalem and masada which all could not be done by ship anyway ) against the ships $1200 and saw much more Could not have felt safer also returned to the ship in plenty of time In Egypt we used Temo Tours party of 6 at $230 (included all entrance fees including museum mummies room king tut sound n light show and buffet dinner on nile cruise and le meridian pyramids hotel and breakfast) against $1100 from the ship once again we felt safe and did far more than the ships tours and got back to the ship in plenty of time With the advent of mobile phones and modern communicaion if there was god forbid any breakdown alternate transport would be quickly forthcoming You must realise too on the ships tours they have up to 60 on a bus how hard is that to control against smaller party where every word the guides say you can hear if one wants to stop for purchases or photos its much easier You have more you time with a private tour and see so much more we did only one ships tour I can say for the 4 of us travelling together NEVER AGAIN felt herded ripped off and as for getting back to ship in time that was a joke it was sorrento and we were dumped in the centre of town told to board blue shuttle buses to go down to the tender we were crammed in like sardines and when the blue bus arrived it stopped in a parking area driver did not speak english and could not tell us which direction the tender was it took 20 minutes to find and we made the very last tender also the tour of pompei lasted 1 hour the rest of the time was spent having lunch 90mins and stops at recommended shops and tour of capri was given no commentary and left to walk up and down a hill with all shops closed as it was sunday at $174 pp for the day was a waste of time we could have seen more by taking the train ourselves and not having to wait for others on the bus that wanted to use the powder room take a photo or buy another postcard I know 60 folk are hard to control but I will never ever take a ships tour again Go to the boards for the royal and look at the comments on Roayl princess sept 5 -17 may help if you want any info re both tour companies who were absolutely great my email is tonyandjoy@aapt.net.au or same at @hotmail.com hope this is not confusing you
