crazycruzer68 Posted September 29, 2007 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2007 We are on the Fantasy in few weeks, not hearing good things about Big Tex. What is it that he doesn't do?
MaryAnnKacz Posted September 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2007 I don't think the Cruise Director is really that important. We rarely see them on Carnival. On RCL she was every where. We were on the Fantasy last summer and it was the most fun Carnival cruise we had as far as activities and getting the passengers involved. It was an Australian guy then who was the cruise director. The best deck party we ever went to was on the Fantasy.
Cracker Ken Posted September 29, 2007 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2007 I think having good cruise directors are important. They are responsible for making all the scheduled activities, entertainment, deck parties, etc, work. They also MC the evening shows, and having an energetic cruise director with a great personality is great. Ken
BrendaB1 Posted September 29, 2007 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2007 CD on a ship has no impact on my cruise experience....good or bad. We met Big Tex on our January Fantasy cruise. Seemed like a nice guy. I don't do shows so not sure about entertainment wise.

Not that important. If you go to one of their cruise talks and they start to talk about tipping the Maitre'd,you know you have bad one.
irishgirl Posted September 29, 2007 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2007 I cannot even remember the names of most of the cruise directors that have been on my cruises. They just aren't that memorable.
DqALEX Posted September 29, 2007 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2007 I liked Big Tex. The man can dance. He had new jokes. I wouldn't cruise just for the CD. The ship, and where it is going is much more important
PelicanBill Posted September 29, 2007 #8 Share Posted September 29, 2007 The CD's presence is felt mostly at shows and events where they emcee. If you don't do much of that you might not even notice your CD. If you attend some or many, then a really good CD can make them memorable. On Voyager of the Seas, our CD came out before the ice skating show on skates and did a "pre-show" of his own, it was hilarious. He was aways funny and added value to the entertainment. But we've had CDs that were just, well, there.
Wennfred Posted September 29, 2007 #9 Share Posted September 29, 2007 The most important part is being able to pass on information, but thats about it. Some humor me, some don't. Im like get the heck out of the way and start the show. Fred
Steamboatin Posted September 29, 2007 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2007 To me the only good ones NEVER make an announcement over the ship's PA system. That usually eliminates them all.:D Out on my balcony I do not need them.
