Need some general help

We're looking at the Grand Suite on Caribbean Princess which I pretty confident we're going to book tomorrow - unless someone beats us to it!

Anyway, my TA has said that both the 1st and 2nd seating are wait-listed with only personal choice available and she says that means eating in the buffet. We've never cruised a ship like this before (did a glorified ferry a few years back). What does this really mean? Surely we won't be in the buffet every night?

You need to get a new TA who knows something...they are WRONG about having to eat in the buffet...there are dining rooms with the same menu for Personal CHoice/ANytime dining...and, in a full suite you can have the menu food delivered to your suite....plus there are other alternate dining rooms on the ship.

Check out the Princess website for dining room details and other eating choices.

While I was typing, so were some others that were faster. Still, my original reply is below.

No, absolutely not!! It sounds like your TA is not very well informed. Are you sure the TA offers the best price as well? I think I'd be looking for someone with a little more cruise saavy, JMHO .

As for Dining - Caribbean Princess has several dining rooms all serving the same menu, as well as specialty dining rooms for extra cost, and lots of more informal eating venues such as the buffet (Horizon Court), pizza, burgers/hot dogs, etc.

The regular dining rooms all have the same dress code for the ship that evening, and serve the same food. CB has traditional (first and second seating) and Anytime (which Princess calls Personal Choice). It is a normal dining room, the only difference is that you can make a reservation or just show up and wait to be seated.

The Caribe Cafe is part of the buffet, but on the CB in the evenings they have wait staff and table linens. You still must go thru the buffet for food, wait staff will bring beverages. Be sure to go to the buffet on embarkation day for a fabulous seafood buffet. The seafood buffet will be repeated during the cruise, so keep an eye on the Princess Patters for info.

Welcome to Princess, you will have a wonderful cruise!

It still never ceases to amaze me some of the info TA's put out that is so untrue. :( :(

Book that GS suite, and enjoy Personal Choice dining in the PC dining room instead of at the same table each evening, unless you would like to request the same table, same server, as it is also possible to make the reqeust in PC. You can visit the buffet if you would like, but PC dining does not mean that is your only option.

And I also agree, I would be looking around for a new TA that knows just a little more about Princess cruises then the one you are current using.

As everyone has said Anytime is just that - you can eat at anytime you wish in a dining room with waiters. Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned. We like to eat around 7 pm especially on port days. You can make a standing reservaiton for the length of your cruise if you wish or just go at any time, too!! Have a wonderful cruise and maybe a new TA!!

After I posted, I telephoned them back and it turns out the TA I spoke to is a trainee and didn't know better. I think I am happier now with what has been said by a more experienced member of staff - they are still giving the best deal which is in our budget hence the reason we are going for such a great suite.

I just had this vision of me in my posh frock and hubby in his kilt in the buffet line!

Thanks for your tips guys.

We always book B category balcony cabins, so I don't know this for sure - but

isn't the GS eligible for in-suite dining from the dining room menu if they prefer?

I would think this is something the TA should have mentioned as well.

Here is the link for CB: http://www.princess.com/ships/cb/index.html

Yes, any full suite has the diningroom menu placed in their cabin each morning for the day. And the GS suite will have a wonderful dining area in it with a large table and I think it was 8 chairs.

As soon as I win the lottery, it will be my cabin of choice. ;) ;)

I'd love to see a pic of you & your hubby on formal night. We often see someone in a kilt on cruises, so he won't be out of place.

Thanks, Toto, for the quick reply.

We did and that's why we have! Not masses of cash but enough to give us this holiday in January and to splash out a bit :D

Well CONGRATULATIONS! If it was enough to pay for the GS suite, you are definitely a big WINNER. I don't blame you one bit, I would be doing the exact same thing.

Don't forget to visit the casino, that lucky streak might still be haning in their once you get onboard. :) :)
