Tipping on the Majesty

according to my travel agent. NCL charges a $10.00 per day per person. at the end of the cruise. This is then divided by the crew. They claim it's so every crew member gets a tip for being nice to you. I am cruising with them in March so I will have to wait till then to see if that works out well or not.

We just returned from the Majesty's Boston to Bermuda run. They add a $10 "auto-gratuity" to your account per person, per day. I thought that it was just fine. They also "auto-add" the tip to any beverage purchase, which again, I didn't think was bad. But boy, those drinks do add up!;)

I was on the Magesty last year and the added 10/pp/day. Realy not a drinker so that was not a problem for me. I did keep one dollar bills with me so when my daughter ordered room service for the fifteenth time that day (serious). I made her give the guy a dollar whenever he came. I also gave extra $$ to the room stewards becausw they did a FANTASTIC job. every night there ws a new towel animal on our daughters bed and they taughter her how to make some of them. I have no idea how they know when you are not in to room but you can be gone for a 1/2 hour and when you come back the room is done. I did not tip any extra in the resturants only because in the freestyle dining I never had a the same waiter more then once.

Majesty is no different than other ships. Instead of handing out tips in cash at the end of the cruise, they take it directly out of your account. Very easy!

Your bar bill and spa has tips automatically added. You will want to tip porters, room service, childcare/camp staff, and may want to tip just a bit extra for the waitstaff in the specialty restaurants.

Also, remember to tip your hosts for excursions, taxi drivers, etc. If you vist a nice old church in port, often they will have a place to put a small donation. Don't forget to bring small bills for souveniers and incidentals in port. You can charge almost everything on the ship to your account, so cash needs are minimal, except for the casino.

This comes directly from NCLs FAQ section:

What about Tipping?

Gratuities

Guests should not feel obliged to offer a gratuity for good service. However, all of our staff are encouraged to "go the extra mile," and so they are permitted to accept cash gratuities entirely at the discretion of our guests who wish to acknowledge particular staff members for exceptional or outstanding service. In other words, there is genuinely no need to tip but you should feel free to do so if you have a desire to acknowledge particular individuals.

Also, certain staff positions provide service on an individual basis to only some guests. We encourage those guests to acknowledge good service from these staff members with appropriate gratuities. For example, for guests purchasing bar drinks the recommended gratuity is 15 percent. For guests purchasing spa treatments the recommended gratuity is 18 percent. Similarly, for guests using concierge and butler services, we recommend they consider offering a gratuity commensurate with services rendered.

So which is correct? No tips needed or they automatically add tips to your account?

Thanks.
