playa palancar question?

Does anyone know what time Playa Palancar opens? I think I remember reading somewhere 9am, but I have no idea where I found that info! We'll be in port at 7am, and we were going to head there first for the beach and snorkeling, but maybe I need to rethink my plan? Will the stores be open that early? Maybe we could shop a bit first?

Also, is Playa Palancar a good beach just to "hang out" for a couple of hours either before or after we snorkel? We wanted to combine a nice beach with snorkeling, but our options seemed limited if we didn't want to do Chank (not even going to attempt to spell that one - ha!) ;)

Thanks for your help!

Are you arriving via the Westerdam in a couple of weeks like we are? We, too, are wondering about the early arrival and what will be open at that time. I've been told elsewhere that you can get to the beach but none of the concession areas will be open until 10:00.

We arrived early last year via the Carnival Holiday and drove to the windward side of the island. We tried to go into Coconuts, but we were turned away by the caretaker because it was too early. We wound up at Mescalito's where the actually made us breakfast (which is not on the menu). Then we drove down to Chen Rio for awhile and worked our way back to Playa Palancar.

If you are aboard the Westerdam, it departs at 3:00 p.m.! Strange hours, but I suppose necessary to get to the next destination! Have fun!

Nope, I won't be on the Westerdam but I will be on the Norwegian Pearl on 10/30 - can't wait! :D

We'll be in port from 7am to 4pm... It's not that I don't want to get up that early, but I don't want to waste the morning just wandering around with nothing to do and then have to cram everything in that afternoon. We were thinking about driving over to the East side of the island, but after hearing your story maybe that's not a good idea either.

If I come up with anything else, I'll let ya know! :)
