PantherFan Posted October 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2007 We would like to visit Chankanaab Park but don't want to do the 5 hour ship excursion. Is it possible to just take a taxi over from the port, how far? Is it worth the time to visit? Thanks:)
rtrtx2 Posted October 16, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 16, 2007 You can take a taxi,I believe it is under $15 one way for four people. There is an admission charge to the park. It has been quite awhile since we were there (they have re-vamped the park post hurricane damage awhile back). We enjoyed our time there. However, if you are looking for a sandy beach and swimming in the ocean, this may not be your best choice. They have the sandy beach, but it isnot a gradual walk in entry to the ocean. alphakitty Posted October 16, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 16, 2007 Here's a thread from a while back with great photos of Chankanaab. We took a taxi from the port for $3.00 PP. It's only a 10 or 15 min ride. The park is beautiful and well worth it, especially if you are snorkeling. There is a smaller lagoon where you can walk into the water. This area is a great place for kids. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=605196
FL_Cruiser64 Posted October 16, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2007 We would like to visit Chankanaab Park but don't want to do the 5 hour ship excursion. Is it possible to just take a taxi over from the port, how far? Is it worth the time to visit? Thanks:) We had a rental car and it took me about 10 minutes from international pier. Admission is $16 dollars/person unless you do certain excursions (i.e. Dolphins Encounter gives you admission discounts based on what Dolphins Swim you do). If you have good weather and want to enjoy a park/beach day that would be it. You have snorkeling, helmet diving, scuba diving, dolphins encounter, sea lion encounter all in one spot. Restaurants, bars, souvenir and gift shops round the picture up.
leahsdad Posted October 16, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2007 there is a discount coupon for $2 off admission at the Cozumel insider site-- the taxi prices are set ---it was $10 for the two of us---was easy to get a cab back when we were ready Paul
leavnofingerprints Posted October 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 16, 2007 A taxi is the best bet by far. The park is only a few miles up the road and if I remember correctly, about a $10 cab ride. Catching a ride back is no problem either as there are many waiting at the entrance. LNF
rosebud1g Posted October 16, 2007 #7 Share Posted October 16, 2007 YES... so much worth it!!! we just went there in August on LOS. did our own venture there... took a cab. have EXACT money for cab.. they claim they dont have any change and keep your extra money! easy way for them to make a buck! take your own snorkel gear. they rent it there for $10 if you dont have it. This was the best snorkeling and clearest, bluest water I saw all week! got great pics of fish. they were swarming around us. took bread/rolls from the ship and fed the fish.... you can email me and I will send you the pics of the park. LOVED it there... very clean. they also have a pool to swim in included in the admission price. my kids loved it there too! Rosebud1g@msn.com go to cozumelinsider.com and print the coupon before you leave from home. Well worth the admission price. park is well kept, bathrooms and changing rooms clean too. cmh1919 Posted October 16, 2007 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2007 Just went last week. The cab for 4 people was $10. The admissin was $16 but I went to the Chankanaab website on the boat and printed out the $2 off discount coupons. It is nice and a good way to spend your afternoon in Cozumel.
