Sailing from St Thomas to St John

We are cruising on Princess in January with another couple and looking at the excursions to St Johns from St Thomas. Hubbies wants to snorkle - wives want to beach it. There are 2 options: an all day catamaran sail and 2 shorter ones. Problem is, the wives don't want to have to swim to a beach. Does anyone know if either of them dock? Or are close enough that you could walk to a beach?? 2nd sail on Princess - same itinerary - and we'd go Princess every time :)

Either tour should satisfy both the hubbies and the DWs.

My experience has been that even when the crew doesn't "beach" the boat, they anchor near enough that it's only a very short swim. If swimming is totally out of the question, the crew will always break out the small boat and take passengers in to the beach.

Hi! What we usually do is on our own with no ship excursion. We take a taxi from the dock to Red Hook, catch the ferry to St. John and take an open taxi to Trunk Bay. The snorkeling is outrageous and the beach is beautiful. No swimming to a beach is involved. You can shop either in th expansive shopping center at the dock or where the ferry goes in St. John. I wouldn't recommend this unless you're there all day, but it's less expensive than doing a restrictive ship excursion. We haven't done this in about three years, but if you go on-line and check out websites you can find taxi rates from the port to Red Hook and the ferry schedule.

Hope this helps!
