Cigarettes

I've heard if your ship makes a stop in St. Thomas, you can bring back 5 cartons per person instead of the usual 1 carton per person.

My question is, does those 5 cartons have to be bought in St. Thomas, or does it mean you can buy 5 cartons from the ship and bring them back?

St Thomas - far left of Havensight Mall is Tobacco Discounters, 18.95 per carton. Not sure of the limit but we got all of ours there and customs didn't say anyting. (4 cartons) We did list it as tobacco though and they wanted to know what type so make sure you put it on your customs list as cigarettes.

I asked the same question when we were on the Liberty 1-07. The gentleman in the gift shop said since we were going to St Thomas, we could buy them on the ship. He also said the cigs sold on the ship are made in America. Cigs sold in port are not.

Can you buy cigs on the boat and smoke them on the cruise or do you have to wait and take them with you like the liquor?

The cigs bought on the ship can be taken with you (not like liquor, which is delivered the last night)

Prices on the Liberty were 2 cartons for $41.95. There were limited brands that were sold by the pack at some of the bar areas, not in the gift shop that I saw.

You can smoke them on the ship and do not have to wait until you get home. I bought 4 cartons ~ some we smoked and brought the rest home. I didn't even think to claim them and nothing was said in Customs either.

Hope this helps
