"Private" Balcony on Crown Princess

We are looking to cruise on Crown and want to get a balcony that not everyone can look down on. Sooooo, if anyone has cruised on Crown can you give me an idea of where on the ship is a good place for a more "private" balcony. On RCCL all of the balconies are private being that no one can look down on you. Thanks.

In ascending order: The minisuites on Dolphin deck have totally uncovered balconies. The cabins on Caribe have balconies that are half-covered and half open to above. Baja, Aloha, and Riviera decks all have completely covered balconies. This is along the sides of the ship; I'm not sure if it's the same for aft-facing balconies on each of the decks. Hope this helps.

Yeah, see, I didn't want to go there! Maybe we should also warn you, OP, that many balconies are easily visible from the bridge wing. . . Whatever you do (ahem), enjoy yourself responsibly.
Not only that but there are two officers on the bridge stationed with binoculars to monitor balconies 24/7.

There are very, very few really private balconies on Princess since the dividers make it easy to look into the next balcony even if you don't intend to. The only truly private balconies that I know of, other than perhaps some aft suite balconies, are the balconies on the Dawn and Sea Princess which are cut out of the hull, i.e., are enclosed metal balconies that are very, very private.

We really enjoyed our half covered and half open balcony on Caribe Deck / Grand Class ship. I thought the open part of the balcony would bother me but it did just the opposite. We had shade under the covered part when we wanted it and full sun when we wanted it. It was also nice to sit out in the open while entering and leaving port. You had a great view of everything and everybody.

As a matter of fact, we just booked a mini suite on the Crown for April, 2008 which is completely open. Have a great cruise.

We never do anything on our balcony we wouldn't do in our front yard..:D. We had an aft facing balcony on Pride of Alhoa which is half covered and really loved it. So when we do Princess will probably get a mini suite on Caribe. JMO...CHar

Last year we had a balcony cabin on the Crown's Lido deck. It was pretty private, but of course the people from the cabins next door could peer around the partition. There was also the matter of the Bridge wings, especially since the cabins are all pretty close to the bridge. We always felt as though it were private and never were concerned about anyone looking in at us. I guess we are boring (lol).

Our next cabin is a mini of the Dolphin (Caribbean Princess), talk about going from a to z!

Remember also that depending on where your balcony is, those on Dolphin or Caribe may be able to loop 'up' at your balcony. I've seen some pictures people on Dolphin have taken looking up at the balconies above and you can see a lot! We've only had balconies on HAL but I figure if someone wants to peek around the divider, they get what they deserve as far as what they see!:D

We were on Crown - October 2006, and we always book Caribe because it is half exposed. The Aloha, Baja, Riveria are all covered !

Which ship are you planning to do a Caribe-deck mini-suite? I'm not aware of mini-suites on Caribe deck on any Princess ship but then I haven't looked at all of the deck plans of the smaller ships. On the Grand-class ships, the Caribe deck balcony cabins are standard-sized cabins with an extra-large balcony that's half-covered/half-uncovered. Perhaps that's what you mean?

We were looking at the Golden for Alaska...but now are leaning toward the Regancy of the Seas. I might have been mistaken...and meant Dolphin deck. I would need to go back and look. Sorry. Char

  • 2 weeks later...

I have never sailed on Princess. I booked a mini on the Dolphin deck. I am thinking about changing to a mini on the Emerald deck for the covered balcony. I have sailed 10+ times in the past and always MIDSHIP. I am sensitive to motion. Do you think the motion would be a problem on the Emerald deck since the mini's are aft? I am so confused!
