Hi everyone

I am going cruising 25th Jan/08 to 8th Feb/08 leaving from Victoria B.C.to New Orleans to travel on the Acardia which our son works on, he is the manager of the casino department. My question is, as my husband is unable to come with me, what is there for me to do on the ship while our son is working as a single women?

Any info out there?

As you probably already know the casino is open on sea day afternoons and evening (into the wee hours) when at sea.

During the day at sea for all passengers including singles there is the following (besides eating and drinking!)

Sunbathing, swimming, deck games & sports, walking, the gym, hair and beauty, the library, shopping, classes, lectures, cinema, bingo, quizzes, dance classes.

In addition at port, although your son will be probably off duty, there are tours or diy around the port-of-call.

At night:

Shows, syndicate quizzes, dances, with dinner being the main, early focus of the evening.

There are often many singles on board (more women then men, usually) and there is a singles get together on the first full day who meet for coffee (hosted) every morning thereafter.

Have a great cruise.

Hi

There is a wonderful Hydropool complex which costs £10 a day, it has a massive spa pool, steam rooms, sauna, and heated mosaic beds which you lie on to relax, looking out to sea, surrounded by aromatherpy steam and relaxation music.... you can finish you relaxation with a spa treatment such as a massage etc.

Have you seen my album of Arcadia photos? GO TO THIS LINK FOR OVER 50 PHOTOS OF THE SHIP:

Hi Sue

I just happened to be slumming around the Boards and came across your posting, which included your photos of Arcadia. The ship looks beautiful and so are the pictures. We were on the Aurora in 2000 cruising the Med which we enjoyed.

Did you have mostly British passengers (this has put us off P&O ships); was the whole product aimed at the British consumer, e.g. catering, pub-style bars, etc.

Hope you don't mind me asking. I'd just strayed from my 'home' Board for Azamara Cruises, as we going on the Azamara Quest in just over 2 weeks. A totally different concept from P & O!

If you feel able to share this with us, may I ask why your son is working as a single woman?

I'm sure you're very proud of him whatever, and I'll get me coat.....

Sir Martin

I wondered about this too. Perhaps it is a new form of niche cruising

Welcome back David; hope you had a good time. Have you received an email from Malcolm?

Sorry for this little personal chat on your thread, dear P&O travellers. I'll buzz off now.

Yes, indeed. Absolutely wonderful cat-free time with specialist entertainment (see post on noisy neighbours)

Also had email from Malcolm. Confusion reigns supreme.

Rita,

Never heard of Azamara Cruises tell me the link to your board and I'll have a look,

Yes mostly Brits on board, as I sail from Southampton. I don't go in the Rising sun pub much, prefer he Crows Nest or Piano Bar la-de la!!:p

If you would like to see more photos; here is a link to all my albums - Arcadia in Med and Canaries, and Aurora :

Believe the lady that asked what to do on ship meant to say;

"What is there for me to do on ship while our son is working, as I'll be a single woman". Thanks to all others who kindly answered her questions.

Have a nice cruise everyone.

Azamara Cruises is part of Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. There are two ships, Journey and Quest. Journey was launched in May '07 and Quest Oct '07. They were originally Renaissance ships, identical to those bought by Oceania. They carry only 694 passengers. Being such a small ship, it is able to visit ports and more exotic destinations that the bigger ships can't reach. From reports so far and photos available on the Azamara website, it is a very beautiful and elegant ship.

If you click on 'Boards' on Cruise Critic and then look on the list of Cruise Lines, you find Azamara Cruises. We are only 14 night Quest sailing to Caribbean 24 Nov. You can find the thread on the Azamara Roll Calls.

The link for Azamara is:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=466

Hope I got that right!

Should you be interested any further, they have just produced a 26 page brochure for Azamara Cruises which explains everything. If you want to know anything else, don't hesitate to ask.

Dear Sir Martin

You are to funny. Sorry, but missed one letter and it was" I ". fill it in where ever you want.

Our son does work on the ship and is the manager of the Casino. I will be a single women onboard and was just wondering what there was to do on the cruise.

Hi there

Thanks for all the info and I will check everything that you told me. I do know that the casino is open during the times at sea and that is why I was wondering what there was to do and again I thank you the info. I will check out the singles event. Just to bad that my husband can not join me on this cruise.

Thanks again

Hi Blab Blab

I was on Arcadia in September minus hubby, I was travelling with my 85 year old mum. As we tend to like different things we would split up a lot of the time, so I was "a single woman", so to speak. I had a brilliant time! Everyone is so friendly, there's always somebody to talk to and I'm sure you will make lots of friends.

Mum went to cookery demonstrations and various talks, while I went line dancing every morning at 10am on sea days. I enjoyed watching the art auctions, although didn't buy any! I went to a few beauty talks such as how to look after your hands and nails, or skin etc and I tried some of the beauty treatments.

In the evenings the shows are great, after that I used to go to the Globe where they had dancing. There were two other ladies on their own and we "teamed up", we thought maybe people had nicknamed us the "Three Witches" but the Entertainment team assured us it was the "Golden Girls"! Tee hee. There were usually a couple of the Entertainment team there to dance with, and I know at least one of them will still be on the ship when you go so I hope his quickstep has improved by then!!!

If you're not a dancer,as somebody else mentioned there are various quizzes in the evening, pub quiz in the Rising Sun and harder quizzes at 11pm every night in the Crows Nest.

I'm sure you'll have a brilliant time, I would quite happily go on my own with no worries. You'll feel very safe.

Some friends of mine are going on the same cruise as you, they are already counting the days - it's their second time on Arcadia.

Hi Polly

I thank you for your information and I will check out all that you said. I am sure that I will meet people onboard. Our son will take me around to places when we are in port. I have been looking at the photos that people have taken on the Arcadia and it is a very impressive ship. I am also counting down the days not only to go cruising but to see our son again. It will have been five months since we have seen him and can hardly wait. It would be nice to meet your friends onboard and if they would like to meet me then they can go to the manager of the casino and talk to him and he will know where I am at all times.

Well take care and again thank you for the information.
