Help with Our Lacaya

We will be in Grand Bahama next week, and want to go to the beach.....we heard that the Westin or Sheraton at Our Lacaya is the way to go.

Questions:

How far from port?

Can we just walk on the beach, or is there a charge?

Any other info you may have.....

Thanks in advance!

The beach is public and thus open to everyone; chair and umbrella rentals are often available during the tourist season and some weekends off-season but the beach itself is free. The Sheraton and Westin resorts at Our Lucaya are private and you should not use the pools unless you're staying there. But you can definitely walk through the hotel and grounds without anyone hassling you. The hotels have restaurants, gift shops and bars too.

Tell the taxi driver at the ship to take you to the Port Lucaya Marketplace, directly across the street from Our Lucaya. Travel time is 20-30 minutes and the cab fare in a shared taxi-van is $5/per person each way. Given the distance, this is a great value. I expect the cab fare will be going up since the price of fuel has risen so much; the $5 fare has existed for years!
