Rental Car vs Private Tour

Hi,

Am looking for some help with our plans for one day in PR. We arrive on Celebrity Galaxy and have early disembarkation and are staying at the Hol Inn Express for one night. Had planned to rent a car and drive to Arecibo (husband is space/radio fanatic!!!) but after weeks of research on the internet, the rental car places are either quite a way from the pier, or only open at 11 am that Saturday which gives us limited time to tour. Also, we were told that parking outside the hotel is risky and very limited..and then we have to be at the airport earlier to turn in the rental car the next morning. I have checked some tour companies at sites suggested in other threads, but a private tour seems pretty expensive($450 to 500 range). All we want is a safe car and driver for 4 people.. Any suggestions from PR 'old hands'?

Did you check Charlies Car Rental? We used them last week and were very pleased. They sent a shuttle to the pier at about 9:30 and their rental rates were very reasonable.

We have decided to book a tour with AAA Island Tours as then we don't have to worry about parking and going to the airport early the next morning to return a rental. It also saves a trip East across San Juan to get rid of our luggage at the hotel, and then back West towards Arecibo before we even get going. I appreciated the suggestion, though.
