rpdr Posted November 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2007 On embarkation day, what hours is the greeting and cabin escort? I'm sending someone on their first cruise out of San Juan on the Summit. They won't be arriving to the ship until 6 or 6:30 for an 11PM sail away. I hope they are still doing it at that late hour...I always thought it was a classy way to start a vacation.
jerseygirl3 Posted November 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2007 We had 5 Sky Suites on the Century last spring, and we boarded around 1 p.m. from Miami and they had champange being served as you stepped onto the ship (as well as o.j.). However, we were not escorted to our cabins. That would have been a nice touch.

crazybus Posted November 12, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2007 Depends......When I was on the Galaxy, we had someone escort us to our cabin but no champagne and last year on the Zenith, we had champagne but no one to escort us.
MEcruzr Posted November 12, 2007 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2007 If you arrive at the time stated on your documents for embarkation you should get both the champagne/orange juice and an escort to your cabin. Too early and they may not be available yet. Too late, and they may be done. The staff who provide this service have other duties before and after embarkation time. Longboysfan Posted November 12, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2007 The Champagne should always be there. Time they serve varies on the cruise. A late arrival and it is doubtful they are there. The people who greet have other duties to attend to. The people who escort you to the rooms are the hotel staff that work the rooms and they come down as they finish off their area. They also may leave when they have time to greet their new arrivals.
Kathie44 Posted November 12, 2007 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2007 We've always had the champagne, but not always the escort. On the first X cruise on Summit we arrived from our Alaska land tour at 6 PM--no escort, probably due to dinner time duties. We got pointed in the right direction. The only time we had an escort is our first cruise (Explorer) when we were sort of overwhelmed and didn't know anything. On Galaxy and Mercury we arrived at lunch time and the rooms weren't ready yet--no escort. I would say the best time for the automatic escort is 2-5 PM. If your clients need help, all they have to do is ask and someone will escort them. X staff members are always eager to help. 1/02 Explorer E. Carib. 1/03 Explorer W. Desertbelle Posted November 12, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2007 We may be weird, but we always decline the escort when offered...we like looking around while finding our cabin without rushing. If we see something we like along the way we can stop and take it in without making the escort wait on us. We do like the greeting and the champagne!! ;)
SheilaNC Posted November 12, 2007 #9 Share Posted November 12, 2007 We do the same as Margie. But, back to the OP's question. Since this is your friends' first cruise, I suggest that you tell them to ask nicely if someone can show them to their cabin and say that it's their first cruise on X. I think it's a nice touch for newcomers and someone is sure to oblige and start their cruise off right!
Shirley and Les Posted November 13, 2007 #10 Share Posted November 13, 2007 ...(as well as o.j.).... What was he doing? Searching everyone's carryon luggage for his stolen football memorabilia??? Les
