Sue L Posted November 18, 2007 #26 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Wow Sue, sorry to read this (((((hugs))))) So very proud of you! ### Thanks, I appreciate it. This board as crazy as it gets some times has actually helped keep sane and smoke free.
Sue L Posted November 18, 2007 #27 Share Posted November 18, 2007 yeah smoking ban! Is this just on RCCL? do you think Carnival will follow?:p :D :) It is only for smoking in your cabin, there are still plenty of other places.
TEXASMUNK Posted November 18, 2007 #28 Share Posted November 18, 2007 There is only one reason there are smokers on a ship! They are there to distract you from watching people smuggle booze onboard!!!!
kidless Posted November 18, 2007 #29 Share Posted November 18, 2007 What I have learned is there really never is a good time. My second day quit my cousin was diagnosed with a rare brain disease and given 1 month to live. She died three days later. We buried her on a Friday and on Sunday my daughter's friend was hit and run and killed on her way back to college. I figure if I didn't go back then, I don't know what we send me over. God Bless you and your family that is all just horrible. I admire you even more now for sticking with the program.
Woe is me Posted November 18, 2007 #30 Share Posted November 18, 2007 I can't imagine anyone smoking inside one of those small cabins--before ban or not!!! It would be like smoking in a closet! I would think the smoking deck area is where most smokers would go to have a quick drag! Have you ever smoked in a closet?
boaterette Posted November 18, 2007 #31 Share Posted November 18, 2007 I think you may find more smoking inside where it is allowed after the ban in the rooms. A lot of smokers do like to smoke inside away from the elements. I know I smoke in the casino when it isn't open just so that I can smoke inside. Especially on raining days. Smokers will be inside smoking. People spend more time in thier rooms when the weather is bad and if they can't smoke in their roooms they will smoke in the inside areas that allow it. BobBeaSea Posted November 18, 2007 #32 Share Posted November 18, 2007 I am one of those who NEVER smoked in the cabin itself only on my balcony. Well, now I don't have to worry about either. 33 days smoke free today. :D Good luck Sue, it isn't easy. I can't remember what the average number of attempts is to quit smoking but it's more than a few. Stay away from the "triggers". :)
travelteam Posted November 18, 2007 #33 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Are you saying you quit for the 3 months you were on the medicine and then when you went off it you started smoking again??? Well, that is depressing!! Sue, I've been smoke free for 3 months after completing the perscribed 3 months on the miracle drug............it works...........just don't try to have one................as a former cigarette addict I'm learning that once addicted to any substance, you can't have just one. Good luck.
Sue L Posted November 18, 2007 #34 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Good luck Sue, it isn't easy. I can't remember what the average number of attempts is to quit smoking but it's more than a few. Stay away from the "triggers". :) The average is 4, and this is 4 for me but I never made it past a week before never mind a month, so I am doing it this time. Thanks for the encouragement. travelteam Posted November 18, 2007 #36 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Any side effects, like dreams, stomach upset? I will be starting on Chantix this week. Any advise to counteract side effects. I had those odd dreams...............so I was instructed to take the second pill right after dinner with an 8 oz glass of water. No more odd dreams, and still not smoking. Has been wonderful. still get the desire sometimes, but I just let it pass.
Sue L Posted November 18, 2007 #37 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Any side effects, like dreams, stomach upset? I will be starting on Chantix this week. Any advise to counteract side effects. I wasn't sleeping well the first couple of weeks, so dr told me to take 2 tylenol pm each night. Sleeping beautifully now. If your stomach starts getting queasy, Saltines work for me. Only was an issue the first couple of weeks and then went away.

sagiv666 Posted November 19, 2007 #40 Share Posted November 19, 2007 (Sorry if this point has come up before. If it did, I missed it.) When the stateroom smoking ban goes into effect, do you think this will mean that the public areas will be smokier? Not everyone has balconies to smoke on, and even though there are some designated non-smoking public spaces (including one completely smoke-free lounge), it seems to me that there will be a lot more smoke in the air. I was a heavy smoker once myself, so I know the need for that butt. However, if I was to see public rooms fill up with smoke because one can't smoke in their room (and may not or have a balcony to retreat to), I would resent their actions. First of all, many do not want to smell the smoke or have it burn their eyes or other body parts. Second, it has been proved that second-hand smoke may be dangerous to the health of non-smokers. I suggest that if you crave for a smoke, follow the example of Leonardo di Caprio in "Titanic" -- smoke outside at the stern.:(
