wilson9112 Posted November 18, 2007 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2007 My parents will be married 50 yrs and we wanted to get them a cruise as a gift. They won't fly (my father will NEVER/Scared to death)! So, the port must be NY. My dad is not a beach person or touring, etc So ports really dont matter. The anniversary is Dec 15th but any cruise next year will be good. Any suggestions?
PhoenixCruiser Posted November 18, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 18, 2007 How about the 5 or 9 night Explorer of the Seas? I like the 5 nighter to Bermuda :D ###
cherylandtk Posted November 18, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 18, 2007 Well...if ports and touring don't matter you will probably want to choose a wonderful ship with high marks for service and top-notch food and ambience. Given that New York is your departure and return port, I would suggest you look at the 10 day trips on either the Queen Mary 2 or the Noordam. wrp96 Posted November 18, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 18, 2007 What do they like to do? What are they interested in? Are they more formal or more casual people? There are lots of options out of New York. NCL has several cruises. I know HAL has a ship sailing out of New York this winter. RCCL has the Explorer of the Seas out of Cape Bayonne, NJ (across the river). Next summer, Princess will have the Caribbean Princess. There are cruises to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Canada/New England.

Well, all in all, my dad likes to gamble and my mom likes the shows. dont matter about the port. 10 days is too long for them but 7 days or 5 days is good. Bermuda might be nice, thanks for the suggestion. They already went to canada and didnt like it. You do have a point, NJ is a can do! thanks again guys:D
wrp96 Posted November 18, 2007 #6 Share Posted November 18, 2007 The shows on the Explorer are great, especially the ice show. The one thing about a Bermuda cruise is remember that while the ship is docked the casinos will be closed so that's something to think about if Dad wants to gamble every day. OMG, He would go crazy in Bermuda if no casino then. Nothing left for him to do. Thanks for that wise statement. Yes, Explorer might be nice. I will check into that. Thanks again! 4merlurker Posted November 18, 2007 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2007 We just did this (July 07)for our parent's 50th! QM2, Brooklyn to the bahamas, 5 days! THEY LOVED IT!! Cunard made a big deal about the 50 years! In fact we booked a balcony and they upgraded them to a suite...Unbelievable! ~Connie
