great seating up there but last week the fish was really greasy. I did enjoy it on the previous cruise though.

Fish and Chips had a wait when I went, but it was def. worth it. Deli and pizza were pretty decent too.

never really did the buffet for lunch, there were so many other choices. The deli, burrito station, mongolian wok...all good! We also enjoyed the hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken nuggets (my DD) they were grilling by the pool and the fries there were really good. Id go to the lido buffet to grab some fresh fruit but that was about it although I saw people making some awesome looking salads up there.

 

 

Thanks but, the Deli etc. are considered part of the buffet. Not to mention, I'm not too intrigued eating a hot dog on a cruise.

To be honest, as a general rule, I am not a real hot dog fan but there is just something about eating a hot dog outside isnt there?

and outside on a ship deck is downright scrumptious;)

Im stuck between the Glory and Dream. Glory leaves Miami and Dream leaves PC.

 

Both over NYE to East Car. Has anyone been on one and/or both of the ships? What are pros/cons about them? Im sure there will be more Glory responses but thats ok! Just comparing and seeing what would be the best

If something is located in the same room as the buffet, what's the difference if it is served buffet style or not (Deli). I didn't know that not wanting to eat a hot dog on a cruise was "limiting my experiences" Sorry if I offended you or anyone else. I didn't know you were going to be so anal about something so minuscule.

Yes a bungee cord will be needed for the balcony door. As someone else mentioned there is a MAJOR wind tunnel effect. I would recommend closing the balcony door before trying to exit your room, I nearly got stuck in the door twice, only to have the crew members laugh at me.

 

The Blue Bar does have a live band. However being that I am one of those nasty smokers, I have no idea what type of music they played, since the Blue Bar is a non-smoking lounge. The White Heat disco had a nice dance floor, but limited on the range of music played. There was a very small area for dancing in the piano bar, I believe it is called the Burgandy room.

Isnt the Blue Bar the Jazz Club? If so I thought smoking was allowed in the Jazz Club? If it isnt which bar is?

I was on the boat on the cruise before they refurbished and there was no place you could go except the dining room where you couldn't smoke. I am sure there were some areas, but after wandering the entire ship a few times, there was no escaping the smokers. It was awful. I spent a great amount of time in my cabin as there was no escaping the smoke or the smell, even the library was full of smokers, so I couldn't even study.

 

Below is their published smoking policy:

 

Effective June 15, 2011, cigarette smoking in public venues will only be permitted in Carnival’s dance clubs as well as in designated areas within the casino and casino bar.

Smoking (including cigars) will be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas (starboard side) of all our ships. Additionally, smoking will also be allowed in the jazz clubs of the following ships: Carnival Destiny, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Spirit, Carnival Pride, Carnival Legend, Carnival Miracle, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom, and Carnival Splendor.

* All Spa suites and staterooms, inclusive of the balconies, are an entirely smoke-free environment.

* Effective December 1, 2011, smoking will be prohibited in all guest staterooms. Guests in balcony staterooms may smoke (including cigars) outside on their balcony.

Guests who smoke in their staterooms will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

Note: Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes are only allowed in the designated smoking areas.

I'm a reformed smoker and didn't have a problem with smoke on the Glory. Some smoke around the pool on the smoking side, and in a couple of lounges, but overall, didn't find smokers a problem.

I didn't think to look into smoking policy before booking. First cruise so I didn't relize the thought most people put into picking a room. I am staying in room 7439 on empress, it's on the starboard side. Do you think smoke will travel down the side of the ship to my room? I want to leave my door propped open but smoke will cause my asthma to flare bad. I don't want to bring a nebulizer with me :(

After reading several posts on this long thread I think I have a better idea of the Lido dining...

 

I was under the impression it was only a buffet but it sounds like it has different areas within it?? I know there is the fish and chips place. Is the pizza place also in the Lido?

 

Do you just go and wait in line to make a burrito or do they make it for you? Or pick out the stuff you want like a Mongolian wok and hand it over for them to make?

Is the deli just grill type items like hamburgers and hot dogs or do they offer sandwiches? My kids like ham/turkey subs etc...anything like that avail?

 

Buffet--choices? salad bar, veggies, meats, sides, breads, desserts type set up?? Do they usually offer a pasta choice?

 

Trying to decide how many formal/nicer outfits to plan vs just casual and do the Lido for dinner instead of the MDR.

 

Hubby is a very picky (BORING) eater and then I have a 4 and 6 yr along with us for the Canada/New England cruise in Oct. The 4 yr old would eat mac n cheese for every meal if possible!

 

Our only experience was RCCL to Alaska -Radiance of the Seas 7 yrs ago. It sounds like Glory has more options.

I have a chance to get an upgrade to a Spa deck balcony on the Glory. I know nothing about this ship. Is it a good or bad deck or should I look at a different deck? If so, what's the more favorable deck? Thanks!

This is a very old thread and long too lol

 

the pastrami on rye from the deli we eat every single day while on a cruise.Its that good

 

the burrito bar what we did was bring a few $1 bills and give them a tip to make us what they like.Never disappointed

 

we like the fish and chips too (alittle greasy but good) theres also ceveche (sp) and a few other things they offer. Its in a great location right above the buffet ,usually quiet until the words out lol

 

often in the buffet they offer alot of the same food offered in the MDR and its really alot faster and very quiet

 

the pizza is at the back of the ship.Usually good ,some ships better than others

 

Not a fan of the buffet desserts(other than if your lucky enough to get warm choc melting cake like we did)

I loved the Spa deck personally....I had a cabin when there were still 6E's, the floor to ceiling windows, but they are gone now...

 

anyway, I think I used the spa showers every day....the end ones in particular, which are the even more roomy ones...but any shower in the spa is bigger than in the cabin....

 

there are fewer cabins of course on that deck and it was a very quiet deck....felt like a bit of a penthouse feel to it....enjoy :D
