Tour possible on transfer from Rome to port?

We are on the April 14th sailing of the Regatta from Rome to Venice -- We arrive in Rome at 7:35AM -- and of course boarding is not until 3PM. Does anyone know of a private tour operator that can offer a transfer from the airport to the port, combined with a 3 or 4 hour tour of Rome? Or anywhere else to help pass the time without sitting in the terminal for hours?

 

Also, any recommendations for a decent hotel in Venice at a semi-reasonable room rate ? Would like to stay near the Piazza San Marco, but not interested in the $600 and up facilities.

In Venice, try Locanda Orceola--supposed to be fantastic. We have stayed at the Monte Carlo, a Best Wertern, behind the clock tower in St.Mark's sq. In April of 2004 we paid app. $100 a nite. The clock doesn't chime during the nite.

 

Arriving at 7:45am will get you thru customs and into Rome Termini between 9:30 and !0am. It is agood 15 min walk to the terminal from the train. Then you have to buy tix for the train out to the coast. There are about 2-3 per hour and the ride is 1 hr 15 min. That gets you to Citivecchio about 12:30. Then you have to get to the peir. Have been told there are some wine shops near the station to stock up for room use. You just might be able to board when you get there. You might not have as much time as you think. Good luck. We used www.romeinlimo.com and Duman K. was our tour guide. He was excellent and I believe they will customize the trip to fit your needs. He picked us up at the port, we did a six hour tour of Rome and he delivered us back to the ship. It was wonderful. We did the Forum, Vatican, Trevi Fountain, and the Colosseum. It was a lot to see in a brief time but it gave us a taste of what to see when we return. Hope this helps.

Thank you -- we booked a 5 hour tour combined with transfers (to Rome, and then to the Port) with with Romeinlimo for 450 Euros for the three of us. Since my husband and I have been in Rome before, the ability to customize th tour to take us back to our favorite places is terrific!
