Casino Question

I'm sure the ship would love you to use your onboard account (okay, the company operating the casino would) as they charge a fee.

What we've done in the past (and plan to do again) is to purchase some casino gift certificates. They have to be cashed in at the casino (the last time they just gave us cash, but would be just as happy if they gave us chips).

This way we could put our casino expense on the credit card and pay it off before the cruise. For some strange reason when the money went away it didn't hurt as much ;)

Good luck.

The casino credits can be purchased through Princess website (I called in and purchased them). Of course there are many things you can purchase in advance.

Here's the link for all the gift options:

Here's the link for casino gifts specifically:

I can't seem to find the number to call to order the items. I'm sure it's somewhere on the Princess site.

Please check around on the site regarding the use of these items. As I said last year we just took them down to the casino (I had to sign the certificate to verify it was being used) and they gave us cash.

The other funny thing, was that I had to select a "greeting" for the certificate gift card. I told the rep, I was unaware of the choices. The rep suggested Bon Voyage! I thought that was perfect, as that's what would be happening to the money anyway.

Have fun, and good luck

Just returned from the Golden and have first hand experience with using the casino card.

On your first visit to the casino, ask one of the attendants to show you how to insert your cruise card into the machines and enter a 4 diget passcode which will allow you to both upload credits from and download credits to your card. THis is very convenient when moving from machine to machine. You can still hit the "cash out" button, but who wants to mess with a bucket full of quarters?

When playing the slot machines, you can immediately upload funds to your card, charging your credit card on file. There is NO fee on the machines.

However, if you choose to get funds at one of the table games, there is a 3% charge.

I talked at length with the casino manager and asked why anyone wouldn't just upload money to their cruise card,(thus avoiding the % charge) and take it to the teller's cage to be cashed out.....and Then take the money to play table games. She said, "not everyone thinks like you".

Before I left the ship, I uploaded $2,000 to my card, cashed it out for cash and will use it to pay the credit card this month. I now have 2,000 extra frequent flyer points - all for free.

This is a great way to avoid taking large amounts of money on a cruise. Anytime you need cash, just go to the casino, use any machine to upload funds (charged to your credit card) and cash it out.

The new system is run by Ocean Players Club and (at least on the Golden) is very well run. You get a bonus of $10 credit for every 1,000 points posted to your cruise card (this is for playing slot games only - not table games).

There were two blackjack and two slot tournaments. This new system, in addition to Maxine, the casino hostess, really enhanced my casino experience.

By the way, I won $1,000 one night on a nickel machine; and $1400 on a penny machine the last night.

Are the machines ticket in, ticket out or are they all paid out in coins?

Not ticket in/ticket out. They pay off in coins -or- you set up your account with you cruise card and pick your own PIN#. Then you upload your credits into your account. Take your card to the next machine and download your credits. If you don't want to cashout in coin, you upload then take your card to the cashier and they cash you out. It's easy
