trish1c Posted November 29, 2007 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2007 For a 1st cruise in general do 3 things: 1. read all you can in advance but don't get overwhelmed or freaked out about the amount of info. 2. remember you can't do it all. 3. pack half the clothes (none of the other stuff: duct tape, cord extenders, mugs, insect repellant etc) and twice the money. That said, some specific tips: 1. Fill out your on-line docs in advance. 2. If you are flying try to get to the port of departure a day early. 3. bring a highlighter for your Cruise Compass 4. sign up for your meet & greet / roll call on this board. 5. read the instructions from your cruise line & follow the "rules" about dress, BYO booze etc. 6. when you board don't give in to the pressure to sign up for expensive stuff, wine with dinner etc. 7. Once on board read a map / layout of the ship to orient yourself then go get something to eat. 8. don't be afraid to try something new 9. pack a sea sickness rememdy just in case. 10. have fun!:D
suebobll Posted November 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted November 30, 2007 We are going on our first cruise ever on the Seranade of the Seas leaving on December 8th. We are a couple around 50 from the US. Any advice? We will be on your cruise. It is our first cruise ever also & we are a couple around 50 (actually I am 50 & 6 days today!) from the US! Go to the Roll Call message board for Royal Caribbean, then scroll down to Serenade, then scroll to the date of our sail. Lots of people online, lots of excursion ideas & we are having a Meet & Mingle. You can read all about once you find our sail date. Looking forward to meeting you. Fredr Posted November 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2007 Hello, Please remember that you are on a cruise, that is, a very special vacation. As I have advised many times, experience as much as you can do so, the aesthetics and romance of a voyage by sea. Watch at least one sunrise and one sunset, see the stars, and moonbeams on the sea. Go dancing at least once and do not miss formal nights. Climb to the very front of the ship and as high as you can go, and stand in the wind as the ship sails out to sea, and pretend that you are Leonardo and Kate. Be friendly to the cruise staff and smile, smile and smile again. And you will be rewarded with some of the nicest smiles that you have ever experienced. Take care of any problems promptly by seeing the Maitre D in the dining room or the chief steward if you need help with your cabin. Hope that this helps.
