i read that carnival has changed, and you cant bring any on board is this true

You can within reason.....I normally bring a 12 pack onboard..

 

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard. However, guests (21 years and older only) may bring one bottle of wine or champagne per person on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the dining room or a $14 corkage fee per bottle in the Supper Club. Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages

Sounds like you were reading old news. Carnival tried banning bringing all beverages for a short time, but reversed the policy again quickly. As stated, a reasonable amount of soda is fine.

we always take a case of Pepsi and a case of bottle water on board with us. Never had any problems.

Just back from the Celebration in November, carried one bottle of wine per person onboard, and a six pack of Pepsi and water. We always carry the water and Pepsi, never had a problem at all:)

We checked in our suitcases... 3 big water bottles, 6 pack of coke, 6 pack of coke zero and a 6 pack of sprite. In our carryons we each had a bottle of wine in our backpacks. This was on the Liberty in November. No problems!!!
