Upcoming Mariner And Sovereign Cruises

Host Mike

Recommended Posts

I am just trying to be proactive.

Since it appears that there is a chance that the cruises out of Cape Canaveral may have some changes, I am sure there will be some discussion on the topic.

Instead of several threads on one topic, I am going to make an attempt to keep it all here to make it easier on everyone looking for information.

Thank You FLAMINGOSUN who posted this on an earlier thread.

It looks like RCI has not issued any updates since this.

From the Port Canaveral website:

September 7, 2004

The waters of Port Canaveral are closed until further notice. This applies to all types of vessels, including recreational as well as cruise and cargo. A full inspection of the harbor and approaches and emergency dredging must be completed before the harbor can be re-opened.

The Canaveral Port Authority offices will be fully operational on Wednesday, Sept. 8 beginning at 8 a.m. and all employees are to resume their normal work schedules.

For the most current information on Port operations, please call the public advisory information line at 321-783-7831 and listen for the prompts. All information is subject to change. Individuals with questions concerning cruises should directly contact the cruise line.

Hopefully, they will be able to affect repairs and complete dredging by the 19th, which is 11 days away...

Thanks Host Mike, for starting this sticky thread. It's going to be an interesting couple of weeks coming up.

We (a large CC group, 80 cabins!) are scheduled to sail on Mariner on 9/19, from Port Canaveral. We were told that the 9/12 pax of Mariner were sailing from and returning to Miami, but that the ship would then come back to PC to get us on the 19th, late. However, that is the exact thing that the 9/12 group of cruisers is being told. So, it seems that RCI will most definately try to get the ship back to PC as soon as possible, the earliest that it would probably be would be 9/12. If not 9/12, then possibly 9/19 IF the port reopens. It basically sounds that as soon as the port reopens, they will return, the problem is, at this point no one knows when that will be.

We're just goin' with the flow, and waiting for "official" info before we change plans. The 9/12 people sail in 5 days, at this point we don't know where they are sailing from, or returning to, they must be stressed. Best of Luck to all of you, and especially to our friends in FL.

Here is a press release from Disney.

It looks like they plan to resume operations out of Port Canaveral on 9/11.

_________________________________________________________________

Due to the situation at Port Canaveral, both the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic disembarked guests from Fort Lauderdale this morning. The Disney Magic will set sail today on a four-night cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, and the Disney Wonder cruise that was originally scheduled to depart on Sunday, September 5, has been cancelled. Guests scheduled for the September 5 cruise had the option of sailing on the Disney Magic four-night cruise that departs today based on space availability.

The next Disney Magic cruise, scheduled to depart on Saturday, September 11, is still expected to leave from Port Canaveral as planned. "The service and cooperation from those at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale during this time has been incredible, and we greatly appreciate their hospitality as we work through complications from the hurricane," said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. "I also want to thank all of the crew members who have done a tremendous job of continuing to focus on providing great guest service through Hurricane Frances."

MEDIA ADVISORY: PORT CANAVERAL NEWS CONFERENCE SCHEDULED

September 8, 2004

PORT CANAVERAL — 2 p.m., September 8, 2004 – Stan Payne, CEO of the Canaveral Port Authority, will brief the media on the latest developments regarding the re-opening of Port Canaveral. Canaveral Harbor was evacuated last Friday in advance of Hurricane Frances.

As a result of the storm, sand in the channel and other navigational hazards have forced Port Canaveral to remain closed to all vessel traffic.

The briefing will be conducted in the Commission Chambers, 200 George King Blvd., on the south side of Port Canaveral.

For additional information, contact Rosalind E. Postell at 321-783-7831 ext. 242 (office), or rpostell@portcanaveral.org

Did they make a statement about the Glory? I can see where the fantasy could fit through the channel, but the Glory (and Mariner) are much larger. Anyone know? This is good news, though! Thanks!

Tropical Weather Update

September 8, 2004 - 3 p.m.

Royal Caribbean International is closely monitoring the path and progress of Hurricane Ivan to ensure our guests enjoy safe and comfortable cruises and to make certain our ships steer clear of the storm. The company also continues to monitor its operations resulting from Hurricane Frances.

The safety and comfort of our guests are always the foremost concern of Royal Caribbean International.

Due to damage caused by Hurricane Frances, Royal Caribbean is currently unable to bring its ships to Port Canaveral, Florida; Freeport, Bahamas; and Coco Cay, Bahamas, Royal Caribbean's private island.

Given Hurricane Ivan's location and projected path, we are currently altering the itineraries of several Royal Caribbean International ships. Additionally, several Royal Caribbean International ships are sailing modified itineraries because of Hurricane Frances.

We will update this information three times daily - at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Ships sailing from Port Canaveral

REVISED: Sovereign of the Seas, normally scheduled to depart Port Canaveral Friday, September 10, on a three-night sailing, will now make that sailing from Port Everglades. The ship will delay its departure from Port Everglades until 8 p.m., local time, Friday. The ship will sail a modified itinerary, visiting Nassau, Bahamas, from 8 a.m. to midnight on Saturday, and return to Port Everglades on Monday morning September 13. Royal Caribbean will transport guests from Port Canaveral and the Orlando airport to Port Everglades for this sailing. The company also will return guests to those locations at the conclusion of this sailing.

Mariner of the Seas, which normally sails from Port Canaveral, departed the Port of Miami Tuesday night and is sailing a modified itinerary that will conclude on Sunday at the Port of Miami. This was due to Hurricane Frances.

Ships sailing from the Port of San Juan

Adventure of the Seas, because of Hurricane Ivan, will not make its port call in Willemstad, Curacao, today. Instead, the ship will spend today at sea and make a port call at Castries, St. Lucia, on Thursday.

Ships sailing from Port Everglades

Enchantment of the Seas because of Hurricane Frances, departed Port Everglades Monday night and is sailing a modified itinerary that will conclude on Thursday at Port Everglades.

Enchantment of the Seas (September 9 sailing), because of Hurricane Ivan, will not make its port call in Cozumel, Mexico, on Saturday. Instead, the ship will make a port call in Nassau, Bahamas.

Ships sailing from the Port of Baltimore

Grandeur of the Seas because of Hurricane Ivan, will not make its port call in Grand Bahama Island, Bahamas, on Saturday. Instead, the ship will spend the day at sea.

Ships sailing from the Port of Miami

Explorer of the Seas, because of Hurricane Frances, departed the Port of Miami Monday night and is sailing a modified itinerary that will conclude on Sunday at the Port of Miami.

Majesty of the Seas, because of Hurricane Frances, departed the Port of Miami Monday night and is sailing a modified itinerary that will conclude on Friday at the Port of Miami.

Navigator of the Seas, because of Hurricane Frances, departed the Port of Miami Monday night and is sailing a modified itinerary that will conclude on Saturday at the Port of Miami.

At this time, no other Royal Caribbean International ships are being impacted by tropical weather. We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and update this information at 7 p.m. today.

Basin and Businesses Re-open at Port Canaveral; Channel and Boat Ramps Remain Closed

September 8, 2004

PORT CANAVERAL — 4 p.m., September 8, 2004 – Businesses, including restaurants and other companies at the Port Canaveral, today are getting back to normal. The U.S. Coast Guard gave approval for vessels to return to the basin at Port Canaveral. However, boat ramps remain closed. In addition, the channel remains closed to all vessels with no marine transit allowed east of the basin into or from the ocean.

Navigational aids are being checked and bottom surveys continue to determine when Port Canaveral can safely re-open to cruise and cargo ships. Canaveral Harbor was evacuated last Friday in advance of Hurricane Frances. As a result of the storm, sand in the channel and other navigational hazards forced Port Canaveral to close to all vessel traffic.

Basin and Businesses Re-open at Port Canaveral; Channel and Boat Ramps Remain Closed

September 8, 2004

PORT CANAVERAL — 4 p.m., September 8, 2004 – ... the channel remains closed to all vessels with no marine transit allowed east of the basin into or from the ocean.

Navigational aids are being checked and bottom surveys continue to determine when Port Canaveral can safely re-open to cruise and cargo ships. ... sand in the channel and other navigational hazards forced Port Canaveral to close to all vessel traffic.

On local Ch 13, they are airing video of the ship channel from the air. That video shows a very plain view of a huge sandbar completely blocking the entrance to the port. Seeing it leaves no doubt why there is "... no marine transit allowed east of the basin..."

BTW - the Port Authority is probably more anxious than any cruiser to get that port open.... while it is closed the port is losing One Million Dollars A DAY.

Also with regards to the sand bar, it is definately better to wait then get one of the ships stuck.

Good luck to everyone traveling soon.

OK, yeah, we got this. But what about the UPCOMING cruise on 9/12??? They aren't posting that it's now scheduled to sail from and return to Miami. Many of these cruisers are heading to FL tomorrow, and have not been told what is going on. I know that this is totally out of RCI's control, but they need to start making some proactive decisions here.

I just don't see that dredging issue as being one that will be resolved in the next few days. Thats MHO and nothing more.

Evacuation plans for the Keys have just been activated. (Ivan)

If Port Canaveral were clear at this point, the cruise lines would probably be considering shifting some arrivals/departures from Miami to here... unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be an option just now.

It was obvious to me, NLPTES, that you meant no ill. Geez, some people seem to just LOOK for reasons to be offended on this board.
