Shopping in either Freeport or Nassau?

Hello, I'm new to this board, so please excuse my silly question. I am going in October and we will be spending 8 hours or so in Freeport and 1 day in Nassau. Where is the shopping better in everyone's opinion? Shopping for nothing in particular, mostly souveniers (t-shirts, knick knacks, things like that). Thanks!

I haven't been to Freeport, so can't help you there.

Nassau is good for shopping. I wouldn't buy T-Shirts there, unless you plan to wear once and throw away. Straw Market (right there at the port where the ship dock) is an interesting place to shop or to practice your price negotiating skill.

Have a great trip

Some of the cheap t's (5/$10) shrink the first time you wash them, but you CAN find nicer t-shirt for a few bucks more.

Check the labels and the printing on them. I have some cheap shirts that I've had for years.. and some that faded quickly.

I think the shopping in Freeport at Lucayan Marketplace is more fun, less people badgering you to come in...they have real stores, not as many of the "straw market" variety, though they do have an area that is just that. I did not have a good experience in the straw market in Nassau...the ladies were agressive and rude to me, as if I had just stepped off the ship with $5000 to splurge, as if I had any money to speak of left after paying for the cruise itself! But I guess they have enough people who do have money to spend, and lots of it. I just hate to see the poor little kids having to learn to beg for a living at such a young age...offering to sing a song for $1...heck, I just gave them the money and said forget it!
As far as buying t-shirts...I found the best buy on the ship the last day at 50% off, nice quality shirts with the Carnival name...but they don't say Bahamas!

This is our first time cruisin, vacationing without kids, & being in the bahamas. So The Lucayan Marketplace will we be able to walk to it for shopping or not? If so, how far of a walk? I was hoping to be out of my leg cast, but ended up in a bledsoe boot(cam walker boot) so I can walk without crutches now, but not for hours & hours. Any ideas where we should possibly shop?
Thanks for any input!

I feel you! My first is coming up in two weeks, and I'm still trying to let it sink in. I hope I don't have trouble sleeping when the time's up. Here's hoping the sweet dreams come easy to you, and I second Quiet...have a wonderful cruise!
