S&S card question Re:cash

You will need to go to the Pursers Desk & apply cash as soon as you board the ship.
I had planned on that already.

I had been reading here and saw something about having to have a credit card and wondered if I was going to have a problem.

Thanks.

We operate on a cash only basis. I hadn't thought about it until just now but Am I going to cause a problem on Sunday when I don't want to hand over a credit card for the S&S card?

I always use cash. Depending on when you board yoou don't have to go to the purser right away. The last two cruises they had me come back closer to sail away time to apply the cash. You can still use your card to buy drinks even though you have not put money on it.

Sailed on the Glory 12/8. Put cash down (only $300) at the purser's desk. They did NOT require that I deposit $200 per person. On the last day, we bought some pictures but only had about $15 left on the account. We told the guy at the counter that we only had $15 left on the account, he said "That's ok, it'll still let you purchase the pictures". & it did, $87 worth.:D I then went to our cabin, got more cash to cover the bill & went to the purser's desk. No problem. We did have a credit of $2.13, but we did NOT receive a check back from Carnival. My Sister had a credit of $14.85 & she DID receive a check under her door the last morning. They automatically deduct the tips on Wednesday night on the Glory, so be sure to check w/ the purser's desk for what day they do this on the ship you will be traveling. :)

are you sure? you can use your S&S without CC or a cash deposit?

I think on the first day it can be used for a certain amount then it has a hold put on it.

I would assume this was to give a bit of time to get your cash deposit put on.

I think my sister got 2 DOD before a hold was put on her card. It was her first cruise and she had gone to put cash on and the line was too long she thought, so she decided she would just wait until later.

That was a while back though, probably 5-6 years so I do not know how they handle it now.

I sailed on the Glory in September and used cash. Put so much on my account after I boarded the ship. Kept track of how much I used by looking up my account on the tv in the room. It was very easy. I too did not want to use a credit card. Have a wonderful cruise...I sure did!
