jimgev Posted December 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 25, 2007 I have a question about requirements for US resident/non-citizen entry into Belize. I have been told that someone on a cruise ship staying for less than 24 hours does not need a visa. Does anyone know if this is true? The question deals with the requirements for a US permanent resident who is not a US citizen. Thanks. Jim
driftwood Posted December 26, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2007 An exception specific to cruise ship passengers is on the books, as otherwise it would be very inconvenient for cruise ships and Belize immigration officials. Tourism is heavy industry in Belize.
OttoCal Posted December 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2007 A visa is not needed for US residents to visit belize for such a short stay. I just checked my passport and it was stamped that I was permitted as a visitor for one month. (This was entry at the airport, not on a cruise ship). driftwood Posted December 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2007 Enter Belize by ANY other means, and the "color of your passport" will mean a great deal, sometimes requiring special pre-visit visas from your country of residence's Belize embassy. This does not apply to United States citizens, who need, as OttoCal had, only their passport for a reasonable stay; but it does get sticky for, for example, Swiss citizens. Cruise ship passengers are exempt! But don't forget your "ship card," or your own ship may disown you when you return from your shore excursion.
