Whale watching in early December

Would love to go on a whale watching excursion during our cruise in 2nd week of December. Are we too early and it will be hit and miss or do we have a good chance of some good looks? Thanks to our helpful friends in Hawaii.

I just booked with Pacific Whale Watch in Maui. 24.25 per person for 2 hour cruise. They have excellant reviews.

Last year's first whales were sighted in late October, a bit earlier than normal.
