Which is better, st thomas or st martin for snorkeling?

Definitely St Thomas/St John. Snorkeling at St Martin is poor to fair unless you go to an outer island.

We thought the snorkeling was much better in St. Thomas. We had only snorkeled in the Western Caribbean before our Mariner trip last summer, and I thought the experience was very different. The coral formations I've seen on past trips were more spectacular, but I saw more sea life in the Eastern Caribbean.

Here are a couple pictures. The first is a sea turtle in St. Thomas, and the second is a starfish in St. Maarten.
