ladylonghorn Posted December 31, 2007 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2007 Typically when I travel I use a medium sized 9 West backpack purse. It makes it easy to keep my hands free for my toddler, or whatever else, yet is still big enough to hold my wallet, camera, a bottle of water and some make up. I'm trying to decide if I should use something else on the cruise (maybe something more summery, or perphaps even a fanny pack - hate that word, but sure make travel easy). What do you like to use on the cruise?
melika091900 Posted December 31, 2007 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2007 a backpack is the best i think , you can carry it and sometimes you dont know its there since its behind you and you can fit alot of stuff in it, i usually take a regular school sized backpack.. What do you like to use on the cruise? When I am on the ship I prefer to use my husbands pockets as my purse! :D Before I leave home I remove all of the items from my wallet that I definitely will not need on my trip. I don't need my grocery store savings card, nor the vet info for my car, my chiropractors information or receipts and coupons.... When I am on the ship, and walking around or going to dinner, I usually only carry chapstick and my sea pass - so hubby or I have pockets that can accommodate this. When we are in port I usually use the pocket in the bag that I am carrying and, again, only take what I really need off the ship. Sea pass, chapstick, just enough cash and a credit card. I am usually toting water, suntan lotion, etc. So I just use the same bag, and the inside pocket in the bag, to carry these items. Not the safest, but I dont leave this bag unattended and always carry it close.
crusinmama06 Posted January 1, 2008 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2008 I take backpack totes, no doubt. The lightweight ones (they might have the Nike swoosh across them but you get my point). Like this... http://www.finishline.com/store/catalog/product.jsp?productId=prod611781 You can toss them in the sand. Take them on shore excursions. Get em wet. And never worry about them. I throw souvenirs in them, some bottles of water, some medicine. We all have one. Except my kids wear Disney Princess ones...lol.
jbh7 Posted January 1, 2008 #5 Share Posted January 1, 2008 I use this Baggalini ONLY bag as my purse on trips. It is nylon and very lightweight. I can stock it up for the items I need to carry on the plane, the empty when I arrive and then use to carry what I need on excursions. It can carry water bottle, camera, snacks, wallet, glasses etc. http://www.baggallini.com/product1.asp?product='ONR207'

I used this and a small diaper bag in Disney World.
SweetAngel Posted January 1, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2008 Once I'm on the cruise ship, I never carry a bag. But on that first day, when you can't get into your cabin yet, and on shore excursions, I like a big bag full of pockets, especially if I'm carrying swimsuits, towels, cameras, film, brushes, medicine, sun lotion, etc. My favorite cruise bag was actually a diaper bag (and my kids were past diaper stage). It didn't look like a diaper bag because it was denim with a football team logo on it. I loved it. Over the years, it got pretty beat up, so I stopped using it, but my husband found it recently and started using it again. I thought it was funny that he was now lugging around a diaper bag (and our children 11 and 9). ;)
CanadianTwosome Posted January 2, 2008 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2008 I, too, am a backpacker. We've had an assortment of bags over the years, but basically we use bags that we can carry without having to tie up our hands, and that will contain everything we want to carry. On the ship, I never carry anything except my card, and possibly lip balm. On our upcoming cruise we're planning on taking walkie talkies, so I guess I'll have to get used to having something else with me. :)
mama_hao Posted January 3, 2008 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2008 I use the messenger style baggalini http://www.shoebuy.com/baggallini-mes160c-messenger-bagg/121625/285301 I like it because you carry it like a backpack and against your back is a zippered compartment that I put my wallet in (pretty secure). I used this and a small diaper bag in Disney World. This is the exact bag I use for travel. I love it. I can wear it sung towards the back or the front if I feel the need for extra security. But once on the ship, my card is on a lanyard and the chapstick is in my pocket.
As You Wish Posted January 3, 2008 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2008 I use an across the body type bag I received from DH as a gift. http://www.coach.com/content/product.aspx?product_no=9995&category_id=846 I love it because it is functional and stylish. You can get cheaper versions at an outlet store or knock-off versions onlline so you don't have to worry about the bag getting messy. It's great because it leaves your hands free, but you can adjust the strap to wear it like as a shoulder bag if you want. It's big enough to hold sanitizer, lipstick, comb, cash, ship card & cell phone.
twins2go Posted January 3, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2008 DH and I both sport school-size backpacks wherever we travel. With kids, you need all the extra hands you can get! I do bring along a tiny evening bag for a nice dinner out, though.

Lightweight and carries a ton of stuff. At one time, Kohl's even has one that holds a water bottle, still might.
cruisegetaway Posted January 5, 2008 #13 Share Posted January 5, 2008 I normally only carry my sea pass card and have that in a pocket. If I don't have a pocket then I wear a fanny pack when on shore. Fanny packs are great for a few small things and leave your hands free for shopping! We have bought the lanyards with "wallet pockets" for the kids. They zip-lock to be water proof and will hold your sea pass plus a few bucks if need be. The kids won't lose them since they hang around their neck!
